Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to enhance our clinical team across our three practices. Our three practices consist of circa 19,000 patients and we are keen to enhance our complement of healthcare professionals to support us in delivering patient care. You will work closely with our team members across all three practices to deliver a minor illness service to our patients.

The ability to deliver high quality care by initial presentation, assessment and the confidence to diagnose, treat and evaluate are paramount in this role.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for attending to patients who wish to be seen by a health care professional; diagnosing and treating patients presenting with minor illness; seeing and advising people in respect of their continuing medical and nursing needs. There is a requirement to see extra or emergency patients. The individual will need to prioritise and triage the needs of patients accordingly, making any necessary referrals for investigations in the appropriate manner and within competence – acting upon the results of those investigations.

Great Haywood and Rugeley PCN is dedicated to contracting and delivering high quality health services to their registered patients. Our ethos is to improve patient outcomes and experience whilst keeping Primary Care at the forefront of NHS reforms.

Paramedic Practitioners work independently within their scope of practice in the community, using their enhanced clinical assessment and treatment skills to provide first point of contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems, to assess, and manage patients presenting with acute/ chronic/ and long term conditions. The post holder will be acting within their professional boundaries, will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, investigation, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. They will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the general practice, their own homes, clinics and remotely. The post holder will practice at an advanced level having the capability to make sound clinical judgements in the absence of full information and to manage varying degrees of risk when there are complex, competing or ambiguous information or uncertainty. They will work collaboratively with the general practice teams to meet the needs of patients whilst supporting the delivery of care through policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree/ Diploma in Paramedicine or equivalent experience
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own transportation
  • Health and Care Professions Council registration

Desirable

  • Working towards developing Level 7 capability in paramedic areas of practice and has completed and signed off formally within the clinical pillar competencies of Advanced Clinical Practice Framework
  • Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Have completed a 2 years consolidation of Learning period as a newly qualified paramedic
  • Have completed a further 3 years experience as a band 6 or equivalent paramedic
  • Evidence of enhanced clinical assessment
  • An appreciation of the nature of GPs and general practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to obtain and analyse complex technical information
  • Recognises priorities when problem solving and identifies deviations from the normal pattern and is able to refer to seniors/ GPs when appropriate
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to assess and manage patient risk effectively and safely
  • Work effectively, independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information in an understandable form to a variety of audiences
  • Well-developed word processing/data collection/email/IT skills
  • Experience in using IT based patient documentation systems together with ability to provide contemporaneous notes
