Dr Mirza & Partners are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and supportive General Practice team. This is an excellent opportunity for a caring and proactive individual to play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care within a busy primary care environment.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

- Assisting with patient care including blood pressure monitoring, phlebotomy, ECGs, and basic wound care

- Supporting clinicians with clinical procedures and health checks

- Recording accurate patient information using clinical systems

- Maintaining a clean, safe, and well-stocked clinical environment

- Providing patients with health promotion advice and support

- Ensuring patient dignity, confidentiality, and wellbeing at all times

About us

A GMS practice based in Bolton within a purpose built (NHS Owned) property.

The practice team comprises of GPs, Physician Associates, Nursing team, PCN Workforce ARRS staff and a supportive admin/ management team.

Our practice is proud to be a regular high QOF achiever, who has also been rated overall Good by CQC.

Registered a list size of 7200 patients and our clinical system is SystmOne TPP.

We are a training practice working with Speciality Training doctors and medical students from University of Manchester and Kings College London.

Our practice location benefits from being close to motorway network with onsite parking.

JOB DETAILS

Job Title: Health Care Assistant (HCA) - General Practice

Grade: Equivalent to AfC band 2/3 - subject to experience

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week. Monday Friday 8am-4pm

ORGANISATIONAL ARRANGEMENTS.

Managerially Accountable to: Senior Nurse & Practice Manager

Clinically Accountable to: Nurses & GP Partners

Main duties and responsibilities of the post:

The post holder is responsible for assisting the Practice Nurses in their clinical and administrative activities, and for ensuring that patients are welcomed and treated with courtesy so that their visit to surgery is as pleasant as possible.

The Health Care Assistant will be trained and supervised by the practice nurses in all aspects of the role and will at all times work to the job description, practice policies and procedures. Performances of clinical duties are dependent on the post holders aptitude and competency and are strictly at the discretion of the practice nurses and the GP.

Clinical:

Chaperoning of patients during examination/procedure.

Restock Doctors rooms and keep trolleys clean.

Carry out work towards BQC, QOF & PCN targets at the direction of the Practice Nurses i.e. hypertensive annual checks.

Give injections of Vitamin B12 and influenza under supervision of the Practice Nurses.

Measurement and recording of height/weight/blood pressure/ urine tests/ vision test for medicals.

Phlebotomy

Perform routine ECG

To report abnormal findings to the nurse.

Check vaccine fridge and monitor stocks of vaccines.

Order vaccines and equipment as necessary.

Assist with new patient screening.

Undertake home visits.

Undertake weight checks at the 6-8 week baby clinic and record the information in the handbook.

Administration:

Order equipment and other health promotion materials.

Keep waiting room notice board tidy.

Assist in gathering audit information.

Input data from hospital letters.

Assist with recall registers.

Other duties may be considered, following appropriate training, supervision, experience and assessment and will be at the discretion of the GPs and Practice Nurses.

Although the majority of training will be in-house, attendance at external training courses may occasionally be necessary.

To be the Infection Prevention and control Deputy. To be a link worker/ Co-ordinator for infection prevention and control.

To be a hand hygiene Co-ordinator.

Personal/ Professional development

The post holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment relevant to their role, including:

Participating in an annual individual performance review (appraisal), including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/ or professional development).

Taking responsibility for own personal development, learning and performance including in-service training (demonstrating skills and activities) to others undertaking a similar role.

Communication

Maintain communication and liaise with other disciplines across primary, secondary and tertiary care services as and when necessary

Contribute to and work effectively within the primary care team

Maintain accurate patient records

RISK MANAGEMENT

It is a standard element of the role and responsibility of all staff of Dr Mirza and Partners that they fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards.
