Main duties of the job

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of the post holder are to provide a full range of general medical services which will include domiciliary visits as deemed appropriate. You will also be encouraged to utilise and develop any skills for the improvement of services to patients, child health surveillance, family planning, training, etc., and the Partnership encourages active engagement in developing and delivering new services. This will be subject to presentation of the appropriate certificates and update of relevant courses.

About us

We are a friendly, well organised, GMS teaching, training, and research-active practice with high QOF scores and an outstanding CQC rating. We are a team of more than 30 staff and consider it important to maintain a supportive team ethos. An aligned paid morning break is offered to all clinical staff to support team relationships and discuss any clinical queries.

The Partners, all approved GP Trainers, are providing care alongside Salaried GPs, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Associates, looking after 11,000 patients. We are supported by a full complement of Practice Nurses and HCAs and, in addition, Additional Role Reimbursement Scheme clinical staff employed via our PCN, including First Contact Physiotherapist, Paramedic, Health & Wellbeing Coach, Mental Health Practitioners, a Dietician and Care Coordinator. We use EMIS Web, Docman 10 and AccuRx.

All clinicians are supported to develop personal interests and as a result we have excellent links with academic and educational work, local practice networks and the ICB. We are a very experienced training practice taking medical students and GP ST grade doctors, as well as Physician Associate Interns, Practice Nurses in their Foundation Year, and student nurses. Together we bring our experiences from outside the practice to innovate and push the standards of care we provide higher. We hold regular practice meetings which include safeguarding, palliative care, significant events and Quality Improvement.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

You will also be encouraged to utilise and develop any skills for the improvement of services to patients, child health surveillance, family planning, training, etc., and the Partnership encourages active engagement in developing and delivering new services. This will be subject to presentation of the appropriate certificates and update of relevant courses.

Clinical Duties

A standard session is 4 hours 10 min. In all advertised role options we offer administrative time in excess of the BMA Standard Contract. Matching the clinical sessions of partners, 10 minute appointments are usually scheduled at 15 minute intervals, however, this can be flexible to accommodate personal preferences, provided that the same number of patient encounters are delivered (i.e. admin time can be used for catch-up throughout the day).

The clinical sessions will consist of a mix of face-to-face and telephone consultations, although we are keen to embrace the advantages of the new ways of working that we have developed recently, including video and online consultation. Patients can currently book a routine face to face appointment, or have one remotely if preferred.

On-call days cover core hours for General Medical Services and are structured differently. Currently the on-call GP timetable has no pre-booked appointments, allowing for time to field urgent queries, provide clinical oversight and supervision as necessary, as well as complete administrative tasks. The on-call GP also manages the majority of incoming online consultations. Our PAs are primarily responsible for urgent home visits; the on-call GP only has to undertake visits if the patients need is particularly complex, palliative or in the unusual circumstances that the visiting PA capacity has been used up.

Administration/paperwork

The job plan allows sufficient time to complete all administrative duties related to your clinical work. Within this time, patient contact may occur e.g. through telephone calls or SMS to efficiently deal with results and incoming letters. It is for this reason that we provide a greater administrative:clinical time ratio than the BMA model contract

Group and Continuing Professional Development

We value your continual professional development and professionalism and to that end we will encourage peer support. We encourage open dialogue and conversation that will assist you with your personal development and growth. The practice is a training practice and you will be expected to provide appropriate support for any students or training grade clinicians in the Practice. Salaried GPs are encouraged to attend protected learning time sessions arranged by the ICB. The practice provides an annual continuing professional development allowance aligned to the BMA model contract.
