PRACTICE NURSE

We wish to expand our Nursing team and are looking for an enthusiastic, professional and kind Practice Nurse to join us.

The successful applicant will have experience of practice nursing and be competent to carry out treatment room tasks such as baby Imms, travel vaccines, cytology, wound dressing, various injections.

Salary will be based on AFC rates and depending on skills and experience we would expect the position to match in the Band 5 or 6 range.

Main duties of the job

This is a permanent, part time post for 20-32 hours per week. There is some flexibility regarding exact hours but some will be required on Monday or Fridays.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate empathy and professionalism as well as nursing skills.

Enthusiasm to provide excellent care and achieve high standards is essential. As well as continued personal development, opportunities and support will be available to those who wish to progress their nursing career.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Duties

Routine nurse appointments for dressings. wound care, phlebotomy, new patient checks, BPs, misc injections etc

Vaccinations and Immunisations, Child and adult immunisations as required by national program and local arrangements. Provide travel advice and vaccines.

Smear tests/ Cytology. Carry out sample collection with respect for patient dignity, and ensuring correct labelling of samples (smear takers error ratio within acceptable limit).

Health promotion checks ie smoking cessation, weight loss etc

ECG. Able to carry out and act on results with reference to senior clinician when necessary.

Recording. Update patient computerised records with all consultations and advice and follow relevant templates to ensure a full and accurate log of treatment, procedures and advice given. Coding information appropriately to inform colleagues and assist in reporting

Maintaining stock levels of, instruments, disposables, and other items needed to carry our nurse tasks. Stock control to prevent waste, unnecessary stock piling and expenditure.

Assist with minor surgical procedures as and when required

Other Nurse tasks or any new ones required by the practice.

Policy and procedure

Attends/participates in practice meetings for learning, case review and process changes.

Assists in the production of practice policy and protocols

Work within practice and professional policies and guidelines, such as PGDs and others additionally specified for cold chain and infection prevention.

Maintain confidentiality at all times

Other

Liases with external clinicians, making referrals when appropriate for additional service and health improvement eg to District Nurses, Social Prescribers.

Professional development. Responsible for own continued professional development and driving personal development plan. Keeping a log of training and competencies. Maintaining and submitting records required for Nurse revalidation.

Maintaining membership of NMC

Acting in a caring and professional manner at all times whilst representing the practice.
