Job summary

We're looking for an enthusiastic, organised individual to join our team as a Dispensary Receptionist. In this role, you'll support the safe, accurate, and efficient supply of prescription medications to our patients, ensuring they receive an excellent standard of service.

This is a part-time 20 hours per week, onsite position, working Monday to Friday, within our busy Dispensary team.

Main duties of the job

You will be a pivotal member of the dispensary team and be the first point of contact for patients and professionals at the dispensary hatch. You will handle requests for repeat prescriptions at the counter and organise dispensed medication for collection. A professional approach and adherence to all Practice policies are essential, with the ability to undertake other reasonable duties as needed.

The individual must be flexible to cover holidays and sickness with occasional overtime. Knowledge of GP clinical systems and working in General Practice would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be given.

About us

Delightful market town and surrounding area. We are a GMS practice with 9600 patients. There are 5 partners and 5 salaried GPs with an excellent nursing team including nurse practitioners and health care assistants, an in-house dispensary and practice pharmacists who work closely with an established administration and reception team. We are a training practice and look after our local community hospital.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Receive requests for repeat prescriptions over the counter; hand over prescriptions
  • Produce repeat prescription forms
  • Organise dispensed medication ready for collection and monitor uncollected items
  • Ensure reverse of forms completed correctly
  • Receive and record prescription and other charges and payments
  • File prescriptions
  • Disseminate information to practice clinicians and staff as directed
  • Unpack and check deliveries against orders and record against stock totals. Store drugs and dressings on shelves. Particular care is required in the storage of vaccines and controlled drugs
  • Help to maintain an appropriate stock of medical supplies (drugs and dressings) and equipment, and dispensary stationery and forms.
  • Check supplier invoices against agreed deliveries and terms and pass for authorisation
  • Assist with stock control, stock rotation and disposal of returned medications
  • Check fridge temperatures and report to the dispensers
  • General administration duties associated with Dispensary

  • Input and extract information from Practice computer system
  • Liaise with town pharmacy, nursing homes and hospitals
  • Participate in overtime rota to cover sickness and holidays
  • Participate in staff and Practice meetings
  • Undertake any training necessary to ensure continued safe and efficient performance
  • Help to maintain high standards of cleanliness on shelves and work surfaces and ensure dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order
  • Adopt a professional approach at all times by choice of attire and attitude to patients and staff
