An exciting vacancy has arisen for a Dispensary Manager at The Beeches Medical Practice, working from our branch surgery based in Dorrington. Although the work will be undertaken from the Dorrington surgery, there will be opportunities to travel to the Bayston Hill practice to attend meetings, training etc.We have a practice population of just over 7,200 patients. Our team strive to provide a friendly, efficient and welcoming environment with patient-centred care at the heart of what we do.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for the safe,
accurate and efficient dispensing of medication to our patient
population, providing advice and support for both patients and colleagues. In
addition, the post holder will be required to manage the dispensary staff and
support the multi-disciplinary team in line with the strategic objectives of
the practice.
The Dispensary Manager will be an integral part of the
general practice team.
The post-holder will aim to maximise income and minimise loss from the Dispensary, working closely with the wider Management Team and GP Partners to ensure the relevant financial controls and processes are in place, as well as reviewing these processes on a regular basis.
The post-holder should be able to support the dispensary team to ensure maximum efficiency, alongside fostering a positive coaching environment that encourages staff to take control over their personal and professional development. The post-holder will ultimately be responsible for ensuring that all work is completed in a timely fashion and raising any issues with relevant staff and/or the wider team.
About us
The Beeches Medical Practice is a friendly 4 Partner Practice. We are situated on the south side of Shrewsbury providing medical care for approximately 7,200 people. The practice covers a wide area from Bayston Hill to Leebotwood in the north - south direction and Acton Burnell to Pulverbatch in the east - west direction.
We have two surgeries, Bayston Hill and Dorrington. Dorrington being our dispensing surgery.
We are an efficient and friendly team that consists of 4 GP Partners, an ANP, 3 Practice Nurses, a HCA, a Phlebotomist, a Practice Manager, Operations Manager, Data Quality and Compliance Manager, 2 Team Leaders, Care Coordinator, and a team of 11 Medical Administrators, Dispensers and Receptionists.
We are a training practice, and clinicians and staff are very involved in ensuring the trainees gain full experience of all aspects of life in general practice. We look after Medical Students from Keele University and GP Registrars for various timescales.
We use EMIS Web as our clinical system along with Docman and GP Teamnet.

be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent
upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
A. To be responsible for planning and
allocating work for all dispensary staff
B. To oversee all dispensing matters within
the practice, checking colleagues dispensing as required
C. To dispense prescriptions for patients
D. To collect prescription charges from
patients, cash up and balance monies received
E. To cross reference number and value of
prescription charges against statements, ensuring accuracy
F. To effectively coordinate the requests
for repeat prescriptions
G. To ensure requests for repeat
prescriptions are processed within a timely manner
H. To manage the return of medicines from
patients
I. To deal with uncollected medication in
accordance with current policy
J. To effectively manage stock levels
within the dispensary, ensuring adequate levels are held, minimising wastage
and expenditure
K. To promote a safe and effective working
environment, conforming to legislation, ensuring drugs are stored
appropriately, within temperature parameters and securely
L. To effectively manage the cold chain
process, ensuring all staff are aware of the requirement to accurately record
temperatures and store items appropriately
M. To conduct stock-takes in accordance
with guidance
N. To process invoices for payment,
liaising with management as required

dispensary conforms to NICE, CQC, etc. guidance
D. Line manage the dispensary staff in
