Job summary
The post holder will be a key team player within our large Nursing team.
You will also work alongside GPs, Nurse Practitioners, reception and admin
staff, provide advice and support for wider multidisciplinary team eg District
nurses, frailty team.
Working under the supervision of the senior practice nurse and in
accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the phlebotomist
will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of
prescribed programmes of patient care.
Main duties of the job
Duties and responsibilities:
- Primarily taking, collecting, and storing samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures will be your fundamental job role.
In addition to this:
- Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
- Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.
- Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.
- Chaperoning duties
- Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses such as urine, faeces and sputum.
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, restocking rooms.
Ideally but not exclusively you will have undertaken phlebotomy training and have recent experience in blood taking. The role will be challenging and rewarding. Training in phlebotomy will be considered if the right candidate applies.
