Job summary

The post-holder is a Dual HCA and Practice Administrator

Depending on the needs of the practice, the weekly working hours for this role will be divided - while maintaining as much consistency as possible - between Healthcare Assistant (HCA) duties and Administrator duties.

Main duties of the job

Within the scope of HCA, the post-holder will work within the practice and supports the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services. This role involves working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

After in-house training, supervision and sign off, the post-holder will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, long-term condition management and patient education while also supporting the administrative team on an as-required basis.

Within the scope of Administrator, the post-holder will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of administrative duties and the provision of administrative support to the Practice Manager.

Duties can include, but are not limited to, supporting the receptionist team with patient registrations, scanning and summarising. Supporting the Practice Manager with meeting agendas, minute taking, scanning, inbox management, significant events, health and safety, policy management, compliance, processing of information (electronic and hard copy) in a timely manner, and any other administrative duties, all in accordance with current policies.

Approx 1/3 of our patients are in the nearby town of Carterton, where we have a branch surgery to serve the local community. We are in a beautiful location, nestled between the Cotswolds to the west and Oxford to the east.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post-holder is a Dual HCA and Practice Administrator.

Within the scope of a HCA in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks.

- Consult with patients and their families to undertake assessments of patient need.

-Deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, care, health promotion, LTC management and patient education.

- Be an integral part of the general practice team

- Provide clinical support to registered nurses and other healthcare professionals within the practice

- Deliver basic clinical care interventions under supervision, supporting continuity of care and patient safety initiatives

- Act as a chaperone as required

- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

-Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC Policy

--Work within national and local protocols where these exist

- Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children

-Recognise the boundaries of their practice and know when and to whom patients should be referred

- Support in the delivery of enhanced services and other service requirements

- Support the administrative team on an as-required basis

- Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes

- Contribute to and embrace the spectrum of clinical governance

- Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

-Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed

-Undertake a broad spectrum of administrative duties commensurate with the role

- Process the Practice Managers incoming and outgoing mail

- File and store records as required

- Photocopy documentation as required

- Process scanning and coding as required

- Processing summarising as required
