Job summary

To assist the Practices clinical team by undertaking a range of clinical and administrative support functions in delivery of service to patients. HCAs work within the established policies, standards and guidelines of the practice at all times, referring back to a registered healthcare professional any patient where an informed clinical judgement is required.

The demands of this post require a person who works well under pressure and who is enthusiastic, self-motivated and who can remain calm in sometimes stressful situations.

The post-holder will be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids and therefore will be meticulous in adhering to precautions.

Main duties of the job

BPs, pulse, temperature, height, weight, BMI, peak flow, blood glucose.Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for pathology laboratory.Venepuncture.ECGs.NHS Health checks incl weight monitoring, long-term condition monitoring, incl diabetic foot checks.Influenza, pneumococcal and B12 vaccinationsWound care and dressings, incl compressionRemoval of stitchesProvide lifestyle advice to patientsRestocking clinical areas, ordering of clinical supplies and keeping clinical areas cleanRecording drugs fridge temperatures and cleaning as requiredActing as a chaperone for patients as requiredAdmin tasks related to health information and monitoring; ordering and maintaining health information leaflets; issuing invitations and updating patient health checks; recording activities using EMIS; adding Read codes accuratelyWorking within established systems of clinical governance, contributing as appropriate to practice audit activityAt all times observing infection control procedures to protect self, patients and colleagues.Assisting in maintaining a safe working environment for self, patients, carers and the multi-disciplinary team, alerting other members of the Practice team to issues of quality and risk identified in work with patients.Appropriately dealing with clinical waste.Conveying relevant information, reporting any concerns and receiving feedback from Senior Nurse / GPAny other duties deemed appropriate

About us

We are a Practice of 9000 patients in Bampton, West Oxfordshire. We serve the community of Bampton and surrounding villages. Approx 1/3 of our patients live in the nearby town of Carterton, where we have a branch site to serve the local community.

We are in a beautiful location, nestled between the Cotswolds to the west and Oxford to the east. We serve military families as the RAF Brize Norton is situated between Bampton and Carterton.
