Job summary

The role described involves a broad range of responsibilities related to the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of partnership buildings and premises.

Main duties of the job

Undertake minor repairs and handyperson duties, perform cleaning duties during operational hours, ensuring grounds are free of litter and harmful materials. Cover cleaning duties in the absence of cleaning staff, conduct and record regular testing of alarms, including fire and security alarms. Maintain firefighting equipment regularly and ensure unrestricted access to equipment and fire exits. Conduct reasonable maintenance of premises garden areas. Complete and file COSHH assessment forms and registers. Safely store hazardous equipment. Perform checks, grit access and egress routes during icy weather. Advise on-site contractors of health and safety procedures. Liaise and collaborate with contractors for on-site maintenance. Monitor heating and water systems, reporting major repairs to contractors or service providers. Ensure the building is heated to a satisfactory standard, check, safeguard, and order supplies related to building cleaning, maintenance, and security items. Handle the portering of supplies and deliveries to the buildings, move large items around the building as directed by other staff. Comply with wider partnership policies and procedures. Adhere to health and safety policies, report incidents/accidents/hazards, and take a proactive approach to health and safety matters to protect oneself and others.

Job Purpose:

To ensure a high standard of accommodation for the visitors and staff of the partnership, through ensuring safety checks, cleaning and maintenance are completed.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Professional Duties

Post holder working to this job description may undertake any of the following main duties and responsibilities (but not necessarily all of them).

1. Carry out minor maintenance repairs / handyperson duties in and around partnership buildings and premises and to equipment as instructed, for example; changing fuses, minor repairs (in line with competence), cleaning, replacement of light bulbs, repairing and preparing paintwork and carrying out painting duties, boarding broken windows, unblocking drains, guttering, grates and toilets, replacement of broken locks / bolts, removal of rubbish and debris excluding contractor debris, erection and repair of shelving, notice / display boards, hanging of information posters (please note that this list contains examples only and is not exhaustive).

2. Carry out cleaning duties as required during the operational hours of the day including checking to ensure grounds are clear of litter and other harmful materials (hypodermic needles, glass, toxic chemical bottles, animal foul). Covering cleaning duties in times of cleaning staff absence.

3. Conduct and record regular testing of alarms in our building(s) including Fire Alarms and Security Alarms.

4. Ensure that all firefighting equipment is regularly maintained and that unrestricted access is available to this equipment and to all fire exits.

5. Carry out reasonable maintenance of premises garden areas

6. Ensure that all COSHH assessment forms and registers are fully completed and filed and that all hazardous equipment is stored away safely.

7. Carry out all daily, weekly, monthly, termly, 6 monthly and annual checks, for example, Legionella, weekly flushing of little used outlets, ladder safety checks

8. Gritting of access and egress route during icy weather

9. Advise contractors on site of our health and safety procedures when carrying out work. Liaise and work with contractors for any maintenance on site that is due to be carried out

10. Monitoring of the heating and water system as required including the reporting of major repairs to contractors / service providers as appropriate.

11. Ensure that the building is heated to a satisfactory standard and adjust heating levels according to seasons and holiday periods.

12. Checking, safekeeping and ordering (where appropriate) of supplies relating to building cleaning, maintenance and security items.

13. Porterage of supplies and deliveries made to the buildings and the movement of large items around the building as directed by other staff.

14. Work closely with the Practice Manager.

15. To undertake any other tasks that may be required from appropriate staff.

16. To comply with wider partnership policies and procedures as well as Health and Safety policies, organisations statements and procedure, report any incidents/accidents/hazards and take pro-active approach to health and safety matters in order to protect both yourself and others.

These duties are neither exclusive nor exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake other duties and responsibilities, which the Partnership may determine.

We are looking for a self-motivated, well organised and reliable person who will provide a key role in maintaining our practice sites, to ensure a welcoming and safe environment for the whole practice community. They will have good communication skills, liaising with the Practice Managers and wider leadership team.

They will also be responsible for managing the health & safety requirements of the practice, including the maintenance of statutory and non-statutory records. Ideally you will be practical with a range of DIY skills that would support the maintenance and repairs of the practice.
