Job summary

To support the practice nursing team and research team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, research and patient education.

Main duties of the job

Our HCA Research role would be expected to undertake a range of HCA assessments and provide appropriate care or treatment in conjunction with our clinical team and Practice Policies.

About us

Ashfields Primary Care Centre is an innovative and forward-thinking Practice led by our partnership of 11 GPs and 1 Pharmacist. We serve and cover a local population of approximately 28,500 patients and are looking to recruit and welcome a Practice Nurse to expand and enhance our team.

We are a friendly, professional, and caring team who are passionate about providing safe and effective care. Our excellent multi-skilled Clinical Team comprises of 19 GPs (Partner & Salaried), Pharmacists, ANP, Pharmacy technicians, Practice Nurses & HCA's.

Our team also includes a full administration team, including a reception team who work in a Patient Advisor role providing enhanced signposting and ensuring patients have access to the appropriate clinicians or services available to them.

Supported by our excellent Clinical and non-Clinical teams, Ashfields Primary Care Centre is a consistently high performer in relation to its contractual obligations including QOF and Quality Contract services.

As an established Training Practice, we pride ourselves in our commitment to teaching and support of a variety of clinical educational placements.

Job description

Job responsibilities

a. Undertake new patient health checks

b.Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

c. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately

d. Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

e. Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

f. Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

g. Carry out BMI checks as directed

h. Act as a chaperone as required

i. When trained, undertake venepuncture

j. When trained, administer flu vaccinations

k. When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervison of the practice nurse

l. Carry out ECGs as requested

m. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

n. Provide support during minor operations as required

o. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

p. Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

q. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

r. Deliver opportunistic health promotion

Primary Responsibilities Research

The following are the core responsibilities of the Research healthcare assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a.Undertake a variety of duties that are within the guidelines and protocols set by the practice and that of any individual research study or opportunity, liaising with study leads, senior investigators, and research nursing staff.

b) Carry out administration procedures in compliance with the principles of Good Clinical Practice and all regulatory legislation.

c) Work independently to manage caseload of patients whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

d) To act as a contact with pharmaceutical companies, study sponsor, clinical research associates and the clinical research network.

e) Undertake required patient screening activities.

f) Perform requirements in study protocols e.g., Clinical assessments including BP monitoring, vital signs and phlebotomy

g) To invite patients to participate in studies via SMS, email, and telephone.

h) Record clear and contemporaneous study documentation to accurately record research activity.

i) Follow all data protection legislation and appropriate standard operating procedures.
