Main duties of the job
Youll be responsible for maintaining exceptional cleanliness and hygiene standards across the practice, ensuring all areas are consistently safe, compliant, and ready for use. Your work will support strict infection control measures, helping to minimise risks and maintain a high-quality healthcare environment.
Alongside cleaning, youll play an important role in keeping the practice running smoothly - ensuring essential supplies are available, completing cleaning records accurately, and carrying out end-of-day safety and security checks. Your attention to detail and commitment to procedures will directly contribute to our ongoing compliance and patient safety

Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Infection Control

Carry out cleaning of all clinical and non-clinical areas in accordance with IPC protocols and practice cleaning schedules

Ensure high standards of cleanliness are consistently achieved to support CQC compliance

Clean and disinfect surfaces, floors, treatment rooms, waiting areas, and sanitary facilities using approved methods and materials
-
Follow colour coding systems and cleaning procedures to prevent cross-contamination
-
Safely handle and dispose of waste in line with practice policies and infection control guidance
Stock Control & Supplies

Monitor and replenish consumables including soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and hand sanitiser

Ensure cleaning materials and equipment are used appropriately and stored safely in line with COSHH regulations
Health, Safety & Compliance

Adhere to all Health & Safety policies, including COSHH and risk assessments
-
Maintain awareness of infection control procedures and contribute to reducing healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs)

Report hazards, maintenance issues, or concerns to the Management team promptly
Security & Premises

Undertake end-of-day lock-up procedures, ensuring all doors and windows are secured

Set alarms and carry out final checks of the premises to ensure safety and security

Work independently in line with lone working procedures
Documentation & Audits

Complete cleaning logs, schedules, and checklists accurately and in a timely manner

Support audit processes by maintaining clear and up-to-date records

- Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) training
- Willingness to undertake relevant training and continuous development

- Previous cleaning experience in a professional environment
- Understanding of the importance of high standards of cleanliness and hygiene
- Ability to follow cleaning schedules, procedures, and written instructions
- Experience working independently and managing time effectively
- Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy with the ability to undertake lone working

- Previous cleaning experience within a healthcare setting (e.g. GP practice, hospital, care home)
