Coltishall Medical Practice, Norfolk

We are looking for a salaried GP who undertakes their role with a caring, enthusiastic, motivated & committed approach and someone who will enjoy working in our team for a minimum of 6 sessions per week, plus CPD.

We are a friendly and supportive team, currently looking after 8800 patients over 2 sites.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a candidate who fits in well with the ethos of the practice. Our priorities are good patient care and teamwork. We look after each other and share the workload.

The role provides the full range of NHS primary medical services to our patients, managing a caseload dealing with a wide range of health needs, ensuring the highest standards of care. This includes clinical examination, diagnosis, treatment and referral as appropriate.

About us

Coltishall is an attractive, spacious, dispensing practice in a pretty rural village on the Norfolk Broads. It is a great area to live with excellent schools, close to both the historic city of Norwich and beautiful North Norfolk Coast.

Our main surgery is in Coltishall, extended just 6 years ago providing light airy rooms, with a small branch surgery at Spixworth, about 4 miles away.

We have worked hard to develop systems which blend the best of modern and traditional general practice giving excellent patient access. We pride ourselves on our good patient satisfaction scores and high standards of care.

We hold regular multi-disciplinary team meetings for clinical governance, palliative care, admission avoidance, safeguarding, and referral management.

Our current team consists of 8 GPs, a physician associate, advanced nurse practitioner, supportive nursing team, excellent administrative staff and processes. This includes ARRS roles, prescribing pharmacist, pharmacy technician, first contact physiotherapists, GP Assistants and Care Coordinator.

We currently have 8,800 patients living in a largely rural area.

We operate a flexible appointment system using EmisWeb and Docman. These systems are easy to learn and no prior experience is necessary.

Coltishall is part of the NN3 Primary Care Network with 3 other local practices with whom we have worked very effectively.

JOB TITLE: SALARIED GENERAL PRACTITIONER

REPORTS TO: THE PARTNERS (Clinically)

THE BUSINESS MANAGER (Administratively)

HOURS:6-8 sessions per week, plus weekly allocation forprofessional development in line with BMA model contract

Job Summary:

The post-holder will have and maintain GMC registration and good standing and the necessary qualifications to practice as a general practitioner in England.

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the Partners and Practice Manager and wider team in all areas to ensure the smooth and safe delivery of primary care.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations at the main surgery (primary place of work) and branch surgery (at least 1 session per week per rota), telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (this is a mix of electronic prescribing and printed prescriptions for dispensing patients)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • In summary the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety and safeguarding
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
