Job summary

Parkside Family Practice are looking to recruit a dynamic experienced Lead Nurse to take a leadership role within our busy GP surgery. You will be responsible for delivering and managing safe, effective and evidence based nursing care across our patient population of just over 17,000 patients.

Main duties of the job

The role requires you to have expert clinical knowledge to guide and support staff in the team to provide the best care promoting and safeguarding the wellbeing of all service users, employees and visitors.

The main duties are but not limited to wound care both complex and less so, child and adult immunisations, blood tests,smear taking, urine samples and awareness of all other treatment room skills.

About us

We are a friendly patient focused practice with over 50 members of staff consisting of 3 Practice Partners, 3 Practice Managers, salaried GP's, a nursing team, Paramedic, ANP, Pharmacy as well as Reception and Administration teams. All staff work across both our sites to ensure things are fair for all.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be required to lead the provision of a clinically effective, cost efficient service and lead a team of nurses in GP surgery setting.

They will be able to independently assess, diagnose, treat, refer, sign post and discharge patients as necessary and in accordance with clinical based evidence and NICE guidlines.

Undertake chronic disease reviews, including Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, Heart Failure, Learning Disabilities etc.

Undertake simple and complex dressings including leg ulcer management.

Undertake contraception/ pill checks and support our women health clinics including smears.

Use appropriate infection control procedures and be aware of QOF figures.

Be aware of safe storage of equipment and adequate stock control in both practice sites.

Ensure clinical rooms are fully equiped and maintained to a high level.

Ensure the Cold Chain policy is maintained at both sites and manage the team ensure the fridge temperature loggers are compliant and back up logger admin is carried out regularly.

Participate in vaccination programmes for adults and children in the practice and/or home visits.

Ensure all areas of responsibility including annually reviewing your nursing policies are up to date and adhere to clinical governence.

Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatment are recorded in a patients record and use the correct codes and templates where needed.

Attend and participate in Practice clinical meetings and TIPS treaining when required and work closely with the Practice Management team and other team members to ensure that QOF targets are met annually especially with child immunisations and be familiar with CQC inspections and liaise with other staff where needed.

General questions from the team and making sure there is adequate cover during staff annual leave and liaise with the Rota Administrator and Practice Manangement Team with any issues concerning holiday.

Make sure Return to Work paper work and policies are followed and all appraisals are completed.

  • Post graduate qualification at degree level or equivalent.
  • RMN or RNLD with NMC and PIN.
  • Qualified RN
  • Extensive clinical experience

  • Compassionate leadership.

  • Knowledge of Emis web and other systems such as DOCMAN, ICE, IMMform.
