Job Responsibilities

• Responsible for attending to patients who wish to be seen by a health care professional; diagnosing and treating patients presenting with a variety of issues and advising people in respect of their continuing medical and nursing needs. These patients will be a combination of telephone triage calls and booked appointments. There is a requirement to see extra or emergency patients.

• Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
• Such tasks may include
• Post operative wound care and leg ulcer management
• Removal of Sutures
• Urinalysis
• Chronic disease reviews for diabetic patients
• Chronic disease management in other areas (after relevant training)
• Peak Flow Readings
• Venepuncture and recording of vital signs
• Blood pressure measurements
• Routine injections and immunisations to include child vaccinations
• Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
• Contraceptive advice/pill checks
• Cervical Cytology
• Requesting basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
• Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
• Other tasks including:
• Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
• Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
• Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
• Undertake housekeeping duties including, general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
• Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
• Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
• At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
• A duty to advise management of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
• Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
• On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
• Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Registered Nurse.

Desirable

• NMC Independent Nurse Prescriber.

Experience

Essential

• Experience of working within a nursing team.

Desirable

• Experience of working in Primary Care/General Practice.
