Assistant Medical Secretary

Job summary

To provide support to the medical secretarial team with day-to-day tasks. Liaising with the patients and health care professionals as well as providing administrative support to the managerial, clinical and non-clinical team

To support the Practice Manager, Management Team, Doctors, and Health Professionals assisting them in achieving their objectives and to liaise with all relevant and appropriate services.

Hours: 20 hours per week (Work pattern to be confirmed)

Please note

Successful candidates and there immediate household cannot be patients of Hightown Surgery. If you and your immediate family are Hightown patients and you join the practice team you and your household will be expected to move to another GP practice to ensure confidentiality and conflicts of interest are maintained.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for creating clinical letters, answering telephone enquiries and dealing with patient queries, as well as covering the Medical Secretary during periods of absence.

The successful candidate will be required to have good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise the demands of a busy office and manage their time and workload effectively.

They will also be required to work unsupervised and communicate with GP's, Locums and other clinical members of staff on a regular basis.

Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Practice Management Team, dependent on current and evolving Practice workload and staffing levels such as supporting annual vaccination and healthcare campaigns

We are situated 15 minutes from the train station and opposite Horton Hospital.

  • Computer Literacy. Competent in Microsoft packages - Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills. Both written and verbal to interact effectively with patients, colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
  • Organisational skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively and maintain accurate records.
  • Confidentiality.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, duties and work pattern where necessary (e.g. cover absence).
