Job summary

Medical Summariser - Hendon NW4

Medical Summariser wanted to work for a busy, friendly, doctors surgery in Sunningfields Road NW4.

Priority will be given to those with Medical Summariser experience within a GP practice/healthcare organisation. Those who can prove they have transferrable skills are also welcome to apply.

Hours of work would be: -

Monday 09:00 to 17:00 (7.5 hours, with 30 min for lunch)

Tuesday 09:00 to 17:00 (7.5 hours, with 30 min for lunch)

Wednesday 09:00 to 17:00 (7.5 hours, with 30 min for lunch)

Thursday 09:00 to 17:00 (7.5 hours, with 30 min for lunch)

Friday 09:00 to 17:00 (7.5 hours, with 30 min for lunch)

Total of 37.5 hours, but you may be asked to do additional hours to cover absence.

Pay is £14.00 to £16.00 per hour dependant on experience.

The successful candidate will need to start as soon as possible. When applying please state your notice period that you have with your current employer.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Medical Summariser. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Culling and sorting patient records and letters in preparation for summarising

Reviewing records and accurately producing a summary of the patients medical history

Read coding the information into the practice clinical system (EMIS Web)

Auditing data collection standards in the practice

Monitoring progress of notes summarising against practice targets

Monitoring patient call and recall systems

Filing and retrieving paperwork

Reviewing progress of summarising, ensuring practice targets are achieved

Photocopy documentation as required

Input data into patients healthcare records as necessary

Conduct system searches as requested

Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested

Summarise Docman letters, paper notes, do GP2GP

Additional call and recall for QOF, QOF data entry

Call and recall for LCS, immunisations

Update diaries in patient notes

Review and update the practice summarising policy as required (in conjunction with the Practice Manager)

Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead

Support reception staff, providing cover during staff absences

The practice is moving towards becoming a paper-light environment, and the main responsibilities of the post-holder will be to summarise and read code relevant information from patients clinical records into the practice computer system, working strictly in accordance with the practice notes summarising protocol.

Health & safety:

o Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines

o Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks

o Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way free from hazards

o Actively reporting health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised

o Keeping own work areas and general/patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holders role

o Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually)

o Reporting potential risks identified
