Job summary
You will be one of the first members of staff who welcome our patients to the practice. Your job will be varied and you will need to have empathy towards our patients whilst working within in the constraints of General Practice.
This is a varied position and there will be difficult situations to overcome but it is rewarding. You need to be a team player and willing to be flexible in your approach.
The role will be based on 30 hours per week, during the times of 7.45am to 6.30pm. You will have set sessions to work but a degree of flexibility is required to cover sickness and annual leave.
In undertaking this role you are expected at all times to behave in accordance with our practice values which demonstrate your commitment to the delivery of high quality services to patients. This will be in accordance with agreed objectives, quality standards, and resource constraints.
Main duties of the job
- To ensure an effective and efficient reception is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice.
- Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
- Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.
- Advise patients of relevant charges for private, non-general medical services. Accept payment and issue receipts for same where required.
- Enter patient information on to computer as required.
Reception
- Welcoming patients
- Consulting with members of the practice team
- Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary
- Dealing with all patients or their relatives, with their requests for appointment
- Make adequate notes to pass on accurate messages
- Coping with requests which are made for appointments, visits, collection of prescriptions, letters or messages left or to be left
Administration
- To have a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures
- To work in accordance with written protocols
- When required making sure medical records are updated
- Knowing the purpose of various forms and where they are kept, e.g. temporary resident, new patient forms, change of address forms
Using the Computer
- Accessing the computer for the purposes of extracting registration details, path results, medication information and referral data.
- Inputting data as requested if required.
- Using SystmOne to book a patient appointment.

We are based on the outskirts of Northampton Town Centre, in a purpose built practice. We are a small Team who work closely together ensuring the continued health and well being of our patients and staff. Our staff are long serving and support one another.
