Job summary

Salisbury House Surgery is a medium sized practice serving a growing population. We are a very stable team consisting of a wide multi disciplinary team. The successful candidate would be expected to provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients, as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team.

Main duties of the job

Job Responsibilities

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs. Such tasks may include:

  • Basic wound care / ulcer care / management of wounds / compression dressings
  • cervical screening
  • Removal of sutures
  • New patient medicals
  • Urinalysis
  • ECGs
  • Venepuncture
  • Blood pressure measurements
  • Ear syringing
  • Routine immunisations
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
  • Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
  • Requesting basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate

Other tasks including:

  • Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician
  • Undertake housekeeping duties including, general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
  • Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
  • Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
  • Participation in administrative systems in the practice
  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
  • A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
  • Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required.
  • On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits

About us

Located in purpose built building in the heart of Leighton Buzzard town.

Established Clinical team comprising of two GP Partners, one Lead Nurse, four Salaried GPs, two Practice Nurses, one Nurse Associate, two Health Care Assistants. This will be in addition to one Senior Practice Pharmacist, one advanced nurse practitioner, and one paramedic. We are supported by a diverse PCN team.

List size of 12,000 patients.

Clinical system SystmOne.

We use Ardens template toolkit which provides structure and standardisation for clinical consultations.

Remote consultations offered where appropriate using eConsult and ACCURX.

We are a training Practice for Nursingl Students, and work hard to ensure that our Nurses can take full advantage of training and development pathways. We value the contribution that our Nursing team makes, and, in turn, we offer excellent support and opportunities for personal development. Ideally, we are looking for a Registered Nurse with experience in delivering Treatment Room procedures.

  • Ordering of stock from the local hospital
  • Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
  • Participation in administrative systems in the practice
  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
  • A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks

  • To have a written professional development plan and to maintain an up to date portfolio which meets the requirements of registration with the UKCC
  • Cooperate with annual appraisal meetings
