Job summary

Comberton and Eversden Surgeries are seeking an interim practice manager for a period of 3-6 months to start early July preferably. Potential for the role to become permanent.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced healthcare manager to join this friendly and sociable practice team.

Competitive salary depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Detailed and up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation, as well as experience in recruitment and managing a diverse workforce;
  • Prior experience of leadership and personnel management, ideally within a healthcare setting;
  • Experience in financial management;
  • Ability to deliver a vision along with the willingness and drive to adapt to NHS targets and business planning, whilst keeping abreast of legislative and contractual changes;
  • Self-motivation and forward-thinking approach;
  • Ability to manage change through motivation and leadership
  • Excellent organisational, management and planning skills, IT skills and communication skills;
  • Ability to implement and manage change effectively;
  • Ability to self-motivate, organise and prioritise workload
  • Ability to identify training and development needs in self and others, as well as experience of appraising staff.
  • A positive attitude and a sense of humour

About us

  • We are a 2 site rural dispensing practice situated in beautiful countryside a short distance from Cambridge
  • Practice population 9600 patients
  • Our strong committed clinical team includes 4 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, 3 GP retainers, 4 practice nurses, 2 HCAs
  • Close relationship with neighbouring practices within our PCN hosting a PCN first contact physiotherapist, clinical pharmacist and pharmacy technician.
  • Patients are supported remotely by the following additional PCN staff- social prescriber, health and wellbeing coach, care coordinator
  • 10 dispensers
  • Automated prescription dispensing machine
  • Currently using EmisWeb but planning to move to System 1

Job responsibilities

Financial Management of the Practice.

To manage the Practice staff and carry out all human resources requirements.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

The overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the surgery supported by our assistant practice manager.

Providing solid leadership, based on a sound knowledge of business management, finance, planning and human resource management, including recruitment.

You will be supported by our bookkeeper, external payroll company and HR advice service.

Presenting and analysing data to monitor quality.

Attending local meetings, representing the surgery, and reporting to partners.

Effectively managing all staff; including undertaking appraisals

Taking responsibility for security, repairs, insurance and maintenance of the premises, services and equipment

Ensuring that the practice complies with all aspects of Health & Safety at Work legislation.

Implementing and maintaining practice development plans under direction from the partners

Handling patient enquiries and suggestions, including dealing with all complaints according to the complaints procedure within the agreed timescale

Reviewing and updating the practices website

Handling practice publicity and health education materials

Being involved in managing the computer system, including organising any maintenance and developments to the system

Ensuring practice compliance with data protection legislation

Preparing practice business plans and annual reports, as directed by the partners.

Administration

Oversee practice meetings and be responsible for preparing and circulating minutes for all professional meetings.

Arrange and chair meetings between the practice and outside agencies as appropriate.

Deal with all complaints according to the complaints procedure within the agreed timescale

Oversee all clinicians rotas prepared by the Lead Receptionist

Work in close conjunction with other practice managers within the PCN

Ensure the practice updates the disaster recovery plans as necessary.

Quality assurance

Be actively involved with local ICB and implement their strategies and pathways throughout the practice.

Be proactive in developing patient services and implementing service standards.

Ensure full compliance in confidentiality for staff and patients.

Produce reports where appropriate and be responsible for overseeing audits.

Update practice protocols and policies within required timeframes and implement new policies as needed.

Implement a practice culture of continuous quality improvement.

Significant event recording, analysis, and discussion

Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of NHS and Primary Care developments
