Job summary

Sudbury Surgery is looking for someone with commitment and passion to provide a first-class service to our patients and to work within our friendly clinical team as a Phlebotomist.

The vacant hours are for 11 per week:

Thursday 8:30 - 2:00

Friday 8:30 - 2:00

Main duties of the job

As a Phlebotomist, you will be required to obtain blood specimens by performing venepunctures and verifying test requisitions by comparing information with medical records. Further details are shown within the job description.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Phlebotomist will work under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols; the Phlebotomist will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities include**

Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with medical records bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel.

Verifies patient

Obtains blood specimens by performing venepunctures

Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures.

Collects therapeutic drug-monitoring assays by collaborating with nursing personnel to ensure appropriate drug dose to collection time.

Tracks collected specimens by initialling, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.

Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.

Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Serves and protects the practice community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHO standards.

Enhances phlebotomy service and practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

  • Qualifications:
  • General education (eg GCSEs) to grade C or above
