Main duties of the job

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice

Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments in line with current processes.

Receive and process eConsult submissions, ensuring that all relevant information is included. Review attachments to ensure clarity and suitability before uploading to the EMIS system.

About us

We are a friendly, established, respected and forward-thinking medical practice situated to the market town of Ripley. We provide a first-class service for patients across a varied and developing practice area. The practice is a training practice and has a list size of 10,300 patients; our clinical team consists of 5 GP Partners, Salaried GPs, Practice Nurses, a TNA and a HCA. We also have a compliment of PCN & ARRS staff including care coordinators, clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and social prescribers, and are the current base for the ARCH Home Visiting Service, a PCN wide home visiting team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice

Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments in line with current processes.

Receive and process eConsult submissions, ensuring that all relevant information is included. Review attachments to ensure clarity and suitability before uploading to the EMIS system.

Complete manual eConsults for patients who cannot submit themselves.

Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.

Ensure that all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately

Receive and make telephone calls as required. Transfer calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.

Take requests for home visits, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to Duty Doctor.

Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non-General Medical Services) services, accept payment and issue receipts for same.

Enter patient information on to the computer as required, including change of patient details e.g. address and telephone numbers.

With each patient contact reaffirm contact details on records, including home and mobile numbers, home and email address. Update records as appropriate.

Patient notes and correspondence

Retrieve and re-file records as required, ensuring strict alphabetical order is adhered to

Ensure records are kept in good repair with all necessary information on the outside cover clearly visible
