We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and committed experienced HCA to join our friendly, enthusiastic and supportive team three days per week - Days to be agreed but definitely Mondays.
The HCA will have a key role in supporting the nursing team in the delivery of high quality, innovative & safe prescribing practices.
The role will work alongside our existing clinical team of 5 partners, 5 salaried GPs, registrars, an advanced nurse practitioner, pharmacists, pharmacy technician, three practice nurses.
Main duties of the job
Working under the supervision of the Lead Nurse you will strictly adhere to specific practice guidance and protocols to provide quality care to our patients.
Experience in a GP setting is preferred and experience with (or most) of the below is essential for this role;
Clinical responsibilities:
Obtaining consent from patient to perform venepuncture.
Confirmation of patient details.
Collection of samples as per phlebotomy protocol
To dispose of sharps as per infection control guidance
Ensure samples are labelled correctly and stored appropriately to minimise rejected samples
Basic wound care
Ear irrigation
Smoking cessation
Administering vaccinations / Injectable medications
Clear and concise recording of procedures in practice notes
Adhere to all infection control guidance
Ensuring any concerns or anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
Clear communication with wider practice team
Check and rotate stock where needed
Stay up to date with protocols and guidance
Blood pressure and pulse checks
Performing and recording Urine dipstick tests
Recording height and weight checks in patient records
Health promotion
You will work to a professional code of ethics, be especially caring towards our patients, provide varied support to the team & show flexibility in the role.
About us
Mile Oak Medical Centre is a very busy GP practice based in Portslade, East Sussex with over 8,500 registered patients.
Supporting the whole practice team is very important to us and we have a daily morning huddle, weekly clinical meetings and lunch together every day. We are busy but have put in place lots of techniques to take the pressure off the clinicians while providing excellent patient centred care. We have an expanding multidisciplinary team including a pharmacy team and we also have Primary Care Network ARRS staff attached to the practice including a social prescriber, mental health workers and a physiotherapist.
We have an excellent reputation as being innovative and forward-thinking, whilst offering a high standard of patient care. We are a well-established training practice for GPs and Nursing students, are situated in a large purpose built premises and a member practice of West Hove PCN. With the help of the whole team, we are striving to become the greenest practice in Brighton.
