Job summary

Birchwood Medical Centre is seeking a conscientious, flexible and reliable part-time clinical coder who will be responsible for the coding of relevant clinical information into patients' electronic healthcare records and selecting and directing appropriate information for clinicians' attention and action, adhering to practice policies.

The successful candidate will play an important role in making sure information is recorded accurately, helping us deliver the best service possible for our patients.

This is a part-time post working 22.5 hours per week as follows:

Monday - Friday 10.00 am - 2.30 pm

Main duties of the job

Review all incoming correspondence, attach to the patient's electronic health record and enter pertinent information in the medical record in accordance with practice policies.

Highlight actions and workflow to appropriate clinician or team.

This position requires careful attention to detail and the ability to interpret medical documentation.

About us

Birchwood Medical Centre is a busy GP practice with 11,000 patients. We have 3 GP partners and 6 salaried GP's, a nurse clinician, practice nurses, a nursing associate, HCA/phlebotomists and an expanding complement of ARRs staff including 2 addition salaried GP's. Our administrative team consists of receptionists, administrators, scanning/coding administrators and medical secretaries.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Clinical Coder. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.

  1. Accurately clinically code key data on the clinical system (SystmOne) into the patient record following the established Coding Protocol and Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) guidelines.
  2. Screen all incoming medical correspondence/discharge summaries, entering key data and selecting and directing appropriate information for clinicians attention adhering to the practice policy.
  3. Ensure workflow to appropriate team/clinician for detailed actions identified on the correspondence
  4. Scanning patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patients healthcare records
  5. The post holder must have a working knowledge and experience of medical terminology and the Summary Care Record, problem linking and previous experience in clinical coding and summarising.
  6. Maintaining a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
