Medical Receptionist/Patient Adviser

Job summary

Birchwood Medical Centre is seeking an experienced, conscientious and reliable part-time receptionist/patient adviser to join our busy reception team.

This is a part-time post working 19 hours per week as follows:

Monday 8.30 am - 12.30 pm

Wednesday 8.30 am - 4.30 pm (with half hour lunch break)

Friday 8.30 am - 5.00 pm (with one hour lunch break)

You will also be required to help cover for colleagues on annual/sick leave. The practice opening times are 8.00 am to 6.30 pm.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant must have:

  • Be enthusiastic and organised with excellent computer skills
  • Be able to remain calm under pressure
  • Be flexible and able to adapt to change
  • Have ability to work as part of a team or alone with minimum supervision

About us

Birchwood Medical Centre is a busy GP practice with 11,000 patients. We have 3 GP partners and 5 salaried GP's, an ANP, practice nurses, a nursing associate, HCA/phlebotomists and an expanding complement of ARRs staff. Our administrative team consists of receptionists, administrators, scanning/coding administrators and medical secretaries.

We strive to deliver the best care at all times for our patients whilst providing a friendly, caring environment for both our patients and staff.

Job responsibilities

Reception

  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the Practice
  • Deal with general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments
  • Process System Connect online appointment requests
  • Use own judgement and communication skills to ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner
  • Explain Practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed
  • Handing completed repeat prescriptions or letters/forms to patient and checking ID to ensure confidentiality is strictly maintained in line with GDPR and practice guidance
  • Be able to cover all reception tasks as necessary

Appointments

  • Process and triage appointment requests for today/future appointments from patients via System Connect, telephone and in person.
  • Deal with visits requests

Patient Adviser

  • Help to improve access to primary care for patients and reduce pressures upon GPs
  • Provide clear information about the range of services available both inside and outside the practice to give real choice to patients allowing them to consider alternative services that best meet their health and social care needs
  • Provide patients with a first point of contact that directs them to the most appropriate source of help, at the right time, in the right place with the most relevant person/organisation

Computer

  • Use practice computer system to book/cancel/amend appointments, check patient information, enter relevant information onto patient records, etc
  • Action tasks sent to reception team
