We are currently looking to increase capacity in our highly skilled nursing team through recruitment of a qualified nurse, ideally with experience of working in a primary care setting.

Main duties of the job

The role of Practice Nurse encompasses:

  • providing assessment, treatment, preventative care, screening, health education and advice to patients
  • working with reference to practice agreed protocols and guidelines to provide nursing treatments to patients both independently and in participation with clinical team colleagues and within level of training completed
  • assisting the practice clinical and administrative team in the provision of high quality patient care
  • maintaining comprehensive clinical and administrative records, ensuring accurate and timely completion of all documentation associated with patient health care

The post offers the opportunity to full or part time hours.

About us

Quayside Medical Practice is located in a central position in Newhaven and can be accessed easily by road, bus and rail. The current list size is circa 10,500 patients. Our catchment area covers the coastal strip from Telscombe Cliffs to Newhaven and surrounding villages.

The practice is comprised of a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, allied health and administrative professionals who are committed to providing the highest standard of care within a friendly, family-centred environment. The practice has 6 Clinical Partners and a Business Partner who work inclusively with all members of our multi-disciplinary team. The practice has an embedded role structure of; Clinical Leads, Administrative Leads and Co-ordinators to ensure that each member of the team feels supported and valued.

Our whole team ethos is considered integral to the long-term stability of the practice and continuous improvement in service to our patients. Any new member to the team would be expected to embrace these strengths and contribute to the development of the practice as it responds to the changing demands of primary care.

1. Supporting nursing team development by:

d. Assessing and monitoring patients health & well-being

e. Using technical and specialist nursing treatments for patients with complex healthcare needs

g. Providing Vaccination / Immunisation Clinics

h. Providing Chronic Disease clinics - developing individual care plans with patient and other health care professionals

i. Checking compliance with and adherence to appropriate treatments using an holistic patient centred approach

j. Promoting holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients before travel

3. Promoting health by:

a. Raising awareness of health & well being and how it can be promoted

b. Working with the team and others to combat public health issues

d. Working with patients to develop a management plan where health problems or potential health problems are identified

e. Maintaining supply of patient information leaflets

4. Assisting other clinical practitioners by:

a. Preparing for and assisting at minor operations / procedures

b. Chaperoning

5. Maintaining the clinical environment by:

a. Maintaining an environment that promotes healthy, safe and effective working

b. Promoting infection control and implementing current procedures

c. Maintaining clinical equipment standards

d. Supporting effective clinical stock control

6. Ensuring efficiency and safety by:

a. Ensuring own clinical practice is safe and effective and remains within boundaries of own competence and limitations

b. Ensuring all consultations and treatments are recorded accurately in patient records

c. Ensuring administrative records are stored efficiently

d. Ensuring items of service claims are made accurately
