A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen due to relocation for a Practice Nurse at the Surgery. We are a GP Surgery just outside Chipping Norton in Shipton under Wychwood in the Cotswolds. A friendly rural practice with just over 6200 patients.
The successful candidate will provide a General Practice Treatment Room service that will include: Cytology, wound care management, immunisation and other core General Practice nurse roles as required by the surgery. Experience of chronic disease management such as Respiratory and or Diabetes will also be an advantage but training can be offered.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
To provide clinical nursing service and support to other professionals and to patients of the practice including: treatment, screening, chronic disease management and advice within the professional competence of the post holder. Support and work effectively within the clinical team.
All duties will be carried out in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and with regard to the various practice protocols. The Nurse is part of the Nursing team responsible for ensuring that the practice provides an optimum service of nursing care relevant to the practice population.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST
1. Meeting patients' nursing care needs as identified, or where care has been transferred by a GP. This will usually be in the surgery but occasional home visits will also be required.
2. Managing the nursing care of patients with chronic diseases, this includes using the practice computer systems for input of information for recall and screening purposes.
3. The following services are offered at Wychwood Surgery:
Asthma/COPD/
Diabetes
Cervical smears
Cardiovascular disease management
Family Planning
Child Immunisations and other immunisations
Phlebotomy and ECG's
Wound care management ( undertake dressings and suture and clip removal)
Flu clinics/Covid clinics
Amending or adding to services as needed are identified.

- Run annual flu and covid clinics and provide opportunistic flu. vaccines during other clinics as adhering to PGD's. During clinics identify if patients are up-to-date with the national routine immunisation schedule and offer vaccines to eligible patients adhering to PGD's; for example pneumococcal vaccination.
- chaperone patients as indicated.
- undertake the collection of pathological specimens, for example swab and urine samples.
- request pathology services.
- recognise presenting with mental health needs, assess and take action required. Discuss with colleague or GP if concerns identified (within your competencies).
- contributing to the monitoring and maintaining of the cold chain.
- work within the national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory professional requirements and good practice guidelines.
- prioritise own workload and ensure effective time-management strategies are implemented.
- maintain the knowledge and skills you need for safe and effective practice.
- maintain continued education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development.
- take part in the development of practice clinical protocols.
- attend weekly nurse meetings and clinical meetings.
- develop working relationships and develop awareness of services available to surgery population.
- demonstrate due regard to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults. Discuss any concerns with the safeguarding lead at Wychwood Surgery.
