Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Physician Associate to join our dynamic and innovative team. As a Physician Associate, youll be an essential part of our well-established multi-disciplinary team. Join us in providing clinical excellence and contributing to the development of future clinicians.

Main duties of the job

As a Physician Associate you will be acting within your professional boundaries, providing care for patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care under the supervision of a GP.

You will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the services, in consultation with the GP. You will work with the multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of policy and procedures and meet the needs of patients.

About us

Our well established and respected Practice is currently running across three sites as we await the build of our new state of the art Medical Centre. We pride ourselves on being a training practice supporting GP trainees and medical students from across the North West. We are a Tier 2 Visa Sponsorship practice.

We are a large practice with over 15,000 patients, supported by by a very experienced clinical and administrative team. The team includes doctors, advanced nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physician associates, care co-ordinators, nursing associates and a large administrative and reception team.

We are preferably looking for a full time employee but we would consider part time flexible working requests.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will, under appropriate supervision:

Provide first point of contact for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems, utilising history taking, physical examination, problem-solving and clinical decision-making skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan working in partnership with patients.

Undertake as agreed consultations for emergency or urgent problems. In addition, undertake telephone consultations / home visits.

Instigate necessary invasive and non-invasive diagnostic tests or investigations and interpret findings/reports within the scope of a PAs practice. Discuss the result and implications of laboratory investigations with patients

Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice

Offer a holistic service to patients and their families, developing where appropriate an on-going plan of care/support with an emphasis on prevention and self-care

Refer patients directly to other services or agencies using appropriate referral pathways

Ensure safe handover of care within and outside the practice as appropriate

Work directly with members of the health care team and support integrated patient centred care through appropriate working with wider primary care / social care networks

Contribute to the practice quality targets to consistently achieve high standards of safe, evidence-based, cost-effective patient care and service delivery

To provide clinical leadership where appropriate within the practice.

Promote and support a learning culture within the practice and assist in clinical instruction, mentoring, and supervision of medical, nursing or physician associate students and other learners attached to the practice.

Maintain clinical skills relevant to your role and expertise.

Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence based practice.

Work collaboratively with patients and their families to develop appropriate ongoing care plans with an emphasis on prevention and self care.

Participate in continuing professional development to keep up to date with evidenced-based knowledge and competence in all aspects of the role .

Participate in Practice appraisals and towards a personal development plan, utilising a reflective approach to practice.

Undertake a variety of of research and analysis tasks associated with the improvement of clinical care, medical diagnosis and treatments where appropriate.

Contribute to regular multidisciplinary and practice meetings.

Contribute to the development of practice polices and protocols.

Fully document all aspects of patient care and manage clinical data in accordance with relevant standards.

Undertake statutory and mandatory training required by the Practice.

Comply at all times with the practice health and Safety Policies.
