Job summary

The Specialist Womens Health Nurse plays a key role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care within Midlands Medical Partnership.

The role focuses on providing contraception services, including the fitting and removal of intrauterine devices (IUDs) and implants, as well as supporting women with menopause management.

Key responsibilities include monitoring the delivery of womens health services, conducting audits, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. The post holder works collaboratively with the Chief Nursing Officer and the Lead GP for Womens Health to ensure services meet clinical standards and improve patient outcomes.

This role is integral to enhancing the health and well-being of women across the patient population.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide consultations, advice, and treatments for women, including contraception (IUD/implant fitting and removal), menopause management (HRT), and sexual health services.
  • Conduct clinical assessments and develop individualised care plans in line with national guidelines.
  • Support cervical screening programs and womens health-related education.
  • Monitor service performance, undertake audits, and drive quality improvement initiatives.
  • Educate and mentor colleagues, participate in research, and contribute to MMPs strategic goals for womens health.

About us

Midlands Medical Partnership is a Birmingham super-partnership currently caring for 72,000 Birmingham Cross-City CCG patients across North and South Birmingham operating out of 10 sites. The partnership was established in April 2009 and continues to grow as a single integrated primary care provider, alongside collaborative working with other similar organisations in our region as part of its strategic forward view.

The vision behind the creation of MMP is to improve and develop all that is excellent about traditional GP services local GPs leading and working in local surgeries to provide long-term doctor/patient relationships based on the established values of trust and personalised care, whilst at the same time being part of a larger, more corporate business structure, allowing our practices and patients to benefit from the resources of a larger organisation, enabling us to improve the range and quality of patient services, improve access and patient responsiveness and improve learning across our organisation.

Clinical Practice

Provide consultations, advice, and treatment for women seeking contraception, including the fitting and removal of IUDs and implants, across all MMP sites.

Deliver specialist menopause support, including the initiation and ongoing management of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and advice on lifestyle changes.

Conduct clinical assessments and develop individualised care plans in line with national guidelines.

Provide follow-up consultations to ensure optimal outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Offer sexual health advice, including screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Support cervical screening programs and provide information on other womens health-related screening services.

Service Monitoring and Quality Improvement

Monitor the performance of womens health services within MMP, ensuring accessibility, effectiveness, and patient-centred care.

Undertake audits to assess service delivery and compliance with clinical guidelines (e.g., NICE, FSRH, and British Menopause Society standards).

Provide regular reports and updates to the Chief Nursing Officer and Lead GP for Womens Health.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service efficiency.

Education and Advocacy

Educate patients on contraception options, menopause care, and broader womens health topics to empower informed decision-making.

Provide training, mentorship, and advice to colleagues on womens health-related issues.

Support the development of patient education materials and group sessions as needed.

Administrative and professional responsibilities

Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the surgery team

Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes on the clinical computer systems as appropriate

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the surgery

Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports

Attend and participate in meetings as required

Assist in the formation of practice philosophy, strategy and policy and develop appropriate protocols

Research

Cooperate and participate as required in any research projects with in the surgery

Liaison

Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplines within the surgery, with regard to confidentiality

Maintain continued education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development

The post holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment
