Witton Medical Centre is a forward thinking, proactive practice situated within the West area of Blackburn. We are seeking to employ a highly motivated Salaried GP for a minimum of 6 sessions per week, who has ambition, innovative ideas and would like to become a part of our dedicated team.
We are a member practice of the Blackburn with Darwen LPC Federation situated within Blackburn West PCN.

About us
Witton Medical Centre is a high QOF achieving practice, and we use the Emis Web Clinical System. Our patient list size is currently 10600 patients and we work closely with two other local practices, Redlam Surgery and Limefield Surgery.
Our practice team consists of:
3 GP Partners, a management team, 1 Salaried GP , 1 ANP, 3 Practices Nurses and various ARRS roles; all of which are supported by an effective and professional reception and administrative team, who have been provided with a high standard of training which includes workflow optimisation, care navigation, medication support and customer care.

Clinical responsibilities
In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery face to face, telephone and online consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking, and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, and correspondence in a timely fashion
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
Providing health education.
Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
Collecting data for audit purposes
Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Completion of medical reports (including NHS and private services as required)

Engage and remain up to date with all mandatory training, including but not limited to Safeguarding, Life Support, and Information Governance.

Understand and follow the requirements of confidentiality (including the Data Protection Act and GDPR) and the Freedom of Information Act and to refer on any queries to the Practice Caldicott Guardian or Information Governance Lead as appropriate.
Follow Practice policy regarding the use of email and computer tasks as the main internal method of non-verbal communication and the use of the intranet and internet as the main source of internal and external information, including the retrieval of relevant information for patients on their condition.

Sessions, Rotas etc
GPs are expected to contribute to the working of the Practice in whatever way is necessary, and some flexibility is required in hours worked.
The week will be made up of a number of clinical sessions and these will include surgeries, prescriptions, visits, meetings, and administration. The practice operates an appointment-based system. Each standard clinical session contains 15 appointments, being a mixture of advance and book on the day remote and face-to face appointments of 10 minutes each.
There may also be occasions when additional emergency appointments within/at the end of a surgery are required, though these would be booked in agreement with the GP and would be allocated fairly across all GPs available at that time. These extra
appointments would not be expected to rise above 3 per person per surgery unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Where contractual working hours facilitate this, all GPs are required to be on an on call rota, responsible for late home visits or urgent queries throughout the day. These duties will be allocated fairly on a pro rata basis. All available GPs are expected to support the on call doctor in the event of high demand.
The post holder will normally work regular days/sessions each week, but this may vary according to holidays and other requirements of the rota, thus some flexibility is required.
