Job summary

At Waterfoot Medical Practice we are seeking a motivated and detail oriented Clinical Coder and Administrator to join our friendly team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring accurate clinical coding and providing hight-quality administrative support to maintain smooth day to day operations with the practice.

This role will be perfect for an enthusiastic, self-motivated person who has a passion for detail, is organised, precise and committed to maintaining high standards of data quality and patient care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will form part of the multidisciplinary team providing high quality care for patients of the practice. The role of administrator is to work within the admin team to ensure efficient and effective administrative services.

The role is varied and includes general administration duties, correspondence management, summarising and data inputting.

The post holder will need to have strong IT skills, pay attention to detail and be able to use their initiative.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be required to

Efficiently deal with messages from clinical and non-clinical staff within or outside the practice and to have a positive working relationship with all members of staff.

Extract and identify key clinical information from incoming correspondence, ensuring accurate coding and appropriate follow up actions are recorded.

To ensure safeguarding information is coded and inform safeguarding lead when required

Appropriately assign and forward clinical tasks or documents to clinical and non-clinical colleagues for further action.

Support clinical and non-clinical staff, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient services within a safe, efficient and well organised work environment.

Always uphold the highest standards of confidentiality within and outside the workplace.

Identify data quality issues and provide support to practice staff in the use of the clinical system to promote quality achievement

Accurately summarise and add relevant snomed codes into patient records, ensuring consistency and completeness.

Support and train members of staff in the use of the computer system or processes

Participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment and participate in annual appraisal reviews

Ensure all mandatory training is completed on an annual basis including safeguarding, confidentiality, equality and diversity

Any other duties at the request of the doctor or practice manager

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE grade C and above in Maths and English, or equivalent
  • Computer Literate
  • Experience working in the NHS or in primary care

Desirable

  • C&G Level 3 AMSPAR Certificate in Medical Administration
  • ECDL or equivalent
  • Medical terminology

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Understanding of the Primary Care environment
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of basic IT packages
  • Ability to apply policies and procedures
  • Understanding of equal opportunity and diversity issues
  • Experience in E-mail and internet use

Desirable

  • Experience of statistical analysis
  • Use of spreadsheets and database systems
  • Detailed knowledge & understanding of Informatics including datasets, coding, and data quality
  • Knowledge of Quality and Outcome framework
