Job summary

Waterfoot Medical Practice are looking to recruit a part time (minimum of 6 sessions) newly qualified salaried GP to join our friendly and progressive practice.

The Practice has a successful track record of delivering high quality primary care services and this is an exciting opportunity for someone to be part of our team.

We are a large GP training practice, serving a population of over 9,300 patients. Based in the Rossendale Valley and only 40 minutes from central Manchester, Waterfoot Medical Practice is surrounded by beautiful open countryside. Rossendale boasts a range of local amenities, offers excellent Ofsted rated schools and has convenient and flexible commuter connections nearby

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a caring and committed newly qualified doctor who can demonstrate high standards of clinical care and is willing to work as part of a highly motivated multidisciplinary team.

In return, you will be well supported by our experienced GPs, encouraged to develop any clinical special interests and participate in supervision and teaching.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

As a General Practitioner (GP) employed, in part, through the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS), you will provide high-quality, patient-centred care while working as part of a multidisciplinary team. This role is ideal for a recently qualified GP, offering the opportunity to develop your clinical skills and confidence in a supportive environment.

You will manage a range of acute and chronic conditions, participate in health promotion and contribute to team-based care plans, with appropriate supervision.

The post encourages professional growth through regular feedback, mentoring and opportunities for further training in line with early-career development.

Clinical Responsibilities

The GP will undertake a variety of duties governed by the GMS contract and objectives of Enhanced services including:

In person/telephone consultations

Visiting patients at home/in nursing homes

Checking/signing repeat prescriptions

Queries, paperwork, correspondence & clinical admin as required

Working closely with PCN and practice teams

Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers

Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

Cover all clinical management of patients in surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results, making referrals to secondary care or to other providers

Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols as well wider guidance such as that from NICE

Appropriate follow up of patients

Record clear and contemporaneous computerised consultation notes

Participate in clinical audits, learning event analyses and practice meetings

Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions

Prescribe generically whenever appropriate in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary, NICE guidance and Good Prescribing Practice

Work with/provide support for other members of the primary health care team

Play a lead role in the practice achieving agreed/other key performance indicator targets

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other Responsibilities within the Organisation

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines both clinical and general

A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation

Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Contributing at Practice Clinical/Organisational meetings.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A medical practitioner whose name is included in the General Practitioner Register under article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003
  • Not subject to suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983
  • Qualified GP with full GMC registration licence to practice, on a performers list Newly Qualified General Practitioner (less than 2 years from qualification)
  • Eligible to be on a performers list and not suspended from that list or from the medical register
  • DBS clearance
  • Have had an annual NHS appraisal if more than one year post CCT
  • Current registration with the GMC and appropriate membership of a recognised medical defence organisation

Desirable

  • MRCGP
  • Evidence of CPD activities

  • Recent experience of working in general practice in the UK
