Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable receptionist / administrator to join our friendly, supportive and progressive rural Health Centre.

The ideal candidate will be great with patients and have a good knowledge of IT systems. The role will entail a mixture of administrative duties as well as care navigation.

We welcome experienced NHS Receptionists as well as candidates who are willing to learn.

Working hours and days will be 13:00-18:00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Main duties of the job

The primary responsibility of the candidate will be to welcome, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

The role is part of a hard-working, highly-motivated, supportive team so the candidate should be an excellent team player. The candidate will provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, both in person and over the telephone.

About us

South Brent Health Centre has a patient population of just under 6,000 patients. With 4 GP Partners, 2 salaried GPs and a Nursing Team comprising of 5 individuals. The surgery is part of the South Dartmoor and Totnes Primary Care Network (PCN) so we work closely with the other 4 surgeries within the network.

Job responsibilities

This role is the face of the Health Centre to patients and other visitors so candidates should be friendly, presentable and willing to contribute as a team player to the smooth running of the practice.

Duties will include the following:

1. Identifying patients' problems and bringing them to the attentions of the correct clinician.

2. Receiving patients and handling their enquiries

3. Dealing with incoming calls and admin

4. Booking appointments

5. Actioning tasks and requests of clinicians and management

6. Keeping the reception area tidy and well-organised

7. Process all telephone requests in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner

8. Various other duties as requested.

Excellent communication skills and a full understanding of procedures are a key part of the role and this extends to recognising patient need for alternative methods of communication and to respond accordingly.

Patient confidentiality is paramount and protocols are expected to be understood and maintained. The candidate will need to develop a thorough knowledge of all policies and procedures.

The post-holder will be expected to strive to maintain the excellent reputation and smooth-running of the practice and to develop their skills to keep pace with practice progression.
