Were looking for a passionate and motivated Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join our dynamic team at Winscombe & Banwell Family Practice.

As an ANP, youll play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to our diverse population of around 11,500 patients. Working autonomously, youll assess, diagnose, and manage a range of acute and chronic conditions, while being fully supported by our friendly, experienced clinical and administrative teams.

Main duties of the job

As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, you will independently assess, diagnose, and manage patients with a wide range of acute and chronic health conditions. Youll provide holistic, patient-focused care, including prescribing medications where qualified, ordering and interpreting investigations, and making appropriate referrals. Collaboration with GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team is key, ensuring integrated care and positive patient outcomes. Additionally, youll play an active role in contributing to clinical governance, and helping to develop and improve practice services.

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
    • Advanced Nurse Practitioner qualification or equivalent postgraduate education (e.g., MSc or Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Clinical Practice)
    • Qualification as an Independent Prescriber (V300) or willingness to achieve within a defined timeframe
    • Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to advanced clinical practice
    • Strong knowledge of current clinical guidelines, policies, and best practices in primary care
    • Demonstrated competency in advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and decision-making
    • Experience in managing acute and chronic conditions within a primary care or community setting

    Experience

    Essential

    • Proven experience working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner or in a similar advanced clinical role
    • Demonstrated experience in independently assessing, diagnosing, and managing a wide range of acute and chronic health conditions
    • Experience prescribing medications and managing treatment plans (if qualified as an Independent Prescriber)
    • Experience working in primary care, community health, or general practice settings
    • Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
    • Experience in providing patient education, health promotion, and supporting self-management
    • Experience contributing to clinical governance, audits, or quality improvement initiatives

    Desirable

    • Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff and students
    • Experience in service development or leading clinical projects
    • Familiarity with local health systems, referral pathways, and secondary care interfaces
