We are excited to be recruiting for a new Phlebotomist to join our amazing practice team. The role will be approximately 26- 32 hours per week. Some flexibility around hours worked may be required during the Practices opening hours. Main duties of the job

Working under the direction of the Nurse Manager and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the Phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis.

This organisation will ensure the post-holder has access to appropriate clinical supervision and an appropriate named individual in the organisation to provide general advice and support on a day-to-day basis.

The post holder will be an integral part of the Practice team

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample

b. Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols

c. Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system and ensuring specimens are ready for onward transportation

d. The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples

e. Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies

f. Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner

g. Maintaining effective liaison with the NHS Trust laboratory staff

h. Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

i. i. Being an integral part of the general practice team

j. Acting as a chaperone as required

k. Ensuring clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC Policy

l. Working within national and local protocols where these exist

m. Be aware of duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on safeguarding adults and safeguarding childre

n. Supporting the administrative team on an as-required basis

o.Undertaking all mandatory training and induction programmes

p. Contributing to and embracing the spectrum of clinical governance

q. Maintaining a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

r. Attending a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
