Job summary
We
are seeking compassionate and dedicated Mental Health GP Assistants to join
our healthcare team, with a primary focus on supporting patients with mental
health conditions. As a Mental Health GP Assistant, you will play a vital role
in assisting General Practitioners (GPs) in monitoring patients' mental health,
conducting necessary physical checks, and conducting wellbeing check-in
assessments.
We are looking for a 30hour post in the Heanor neighbourhood and 1.5 full time equivalents in the Ripley neighbourhood.
Main duties of the job
Your main responsibilities will include offering and booking appointments for patients, as well as providing appropriate signposting to other mental health services. While formal qualifications are not mandatory, relevant experience in managing mental health conditions and working in a healthcare environment is preferred.
There will be an opportunity to undertake the Level 4 General Practice Assistant accredited course.

- Mental Health Monitoring: Assist GPs in monitoring and documenting the mental health progress of patients with mental health conditions, ensuring regular check-ins and updates are conducted.
- Physical Health Checks: Conduct basic physical health checks, record vital signs, and assist in identifying any potential health issues related to mental health conditions.
- Wellbeing Assessments: Administer wellbeing assessments to patients, gauging their overall mental and emotional wellbeing and reporting findings to the GP.
- Appointment Booking: Schedule appointments for patients, considering their mental health needs and ensuring appointments are efficiently managed.
- Patient Support: Provide empathetic and compassionate support to patients dealing with mental health challenges, offering a caring and non-judgmental environment.
- Signposting and Referrals: Guide patients to appropriate mental health services and resources based on their individual needs, including referrals to specialist mental health practitioners or organisations.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with patients, colleagues, and external mental health service providers to ensure seamless patient care.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to data protection regulations.
- Continuous Learning: Stay informed about advancements in mental health care.
