Job summary

We are looking to welcome a new Care Navigator to our friendly, busy Islington GP Practice, working with a team of 8 other Care Navigators. This is a full-time role with a mixture of early, middle and late shifts covering our core hours of 8.00am to 7.30pm.

Main duties of the job

Welcoming and directing patients that attend the practice, answering and triaging patients that call the practice, booking appointments, and dealing with general patient queries alongside carrying out other admin duties such as registering patients and dealing with repeat prescriptions and emails.

About us

We are a friendly, welcoming team of just over 30 members of staff including GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists, Care Navigators and Administrators. We all look after and support each other and have an active well being programme.

JOB DESCRIPTION (February 2025)

JOB TITLE: EXPERIENCED GP CARE NAVIGATOR/RECEPTIONIST

REPORTS TO: RECEPTION MANAGER

HOURS: Full-time 37.5 hours per week

Core hours: Monday to Friday 7.5 hours a day plus 1-hour unpaid lunch break between core hours of 8.00am and 7.30pm

Job Summary

Welcome, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person, phone or e-mail.

Job Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Signposting patients to the correct service.
  • Competently deal with email, face to face and phone queries from patients, staff and healthcare professionals.
  • Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.

Teamwork

  • Supporting a team of 8 reception colleagues.
  • Providing occasional holiday and sickness cover for colleagues.
  • Attend and contribute to team and practice meetings.

IT/ Admin

  • Able to manage key tasks (registrations, online e-Consults, emails, scanning, repeat prescriptions, texts, booking appointments).
  • Having a basic understanding of IT (Microsoft Word)
  • Willingness to learn & pick up new technology (e.g. NHS apps)
  • Carry out standard GP reception admin and reception tasks such as: booking appointments, managing home visit requests, repeat prescriptions, calling/recalling patients for appointments.

Other Tasks

  • Keep reception area clean & tidy
  • Being able to open and close the building
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety.
  • Any other tasks allocated by managers

  • Demonstrable business IT skills
  • Demonstrable skills in and understanding of customer service.

  • Demonstrable experience of working in teams. Strong team player.
