Kingsteignton
Medical Practice is seeking to recruit a patient centred GP to join our team
for 6 clinical sessions a week on a permanent basis.
We are a
family friendly, well-regarded medical practice in South Devon with a patient list
size of 11,600. We have been rated good by CQC in previous inspections. We welcome
medical trainees in our practice and receive excellent feedback as we believe
passionately in supporting the next generation of clinicians.
Our genuinely
friendly team comprises GPs, Registrars, Nurses, HCAs, Paramedics, a Dietitian
and a dynamic Patient Services team who are committed to working together for
the benefit of our patients. We look to encourage and support all members of
our team in their own self-development and provide opportunities for them to be
involved in our service innovation and improvement.
The Practice
is an active member of the Templer Care Primary Care Network (PCN) covering the
wider footprint of Newton Abbot.
T&Cs
NHS pension scheme, professional indemnity covered by the practice, BMA model
contract.
Salary
towards the top end of recommended bracket.
The
practice uses TPPP SystmOne clinical system and we work within BMA recommended
safe working limits. Opportunities for Extended Access/Weekend work is wished
but not compulsory.
Main duties of the job
You
will be
required to undertake all the reasonable duties of a GP including surgeries,
home visits where necessary, medical examinations and other day-to-day clinical
duties that a doctor in General Practice undertakes. We welcome GPs with a
specialist interest such as diabetes, heart care etc
To support the Partners to manage the
clinical caseload. The postholder will be expected to take part in leading on
key disease areas (monitoring trends in treatment, staff training and
prescribing) and assist in developing appropriate healthcare services for the
diverse patient list (in-house clinical services, patient participation and
health promotion).
In accordance with the practice timetable as agreed, the post-holder
will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including
surgery consultations, emergency, telephone consultations and queries,
triaging, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions
and dealing with queries, patient medical reports and examinations (eg
Insurance Companies) on behalf of the Practice, referral letters (NHS and
private), paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner

To support the Partners to manage the
clinical caseload. The postholder will be expected to take part in leading on

prescribing) and assist in developing appropriate healthcare services for the
diverse patient list (in-house clinical services, patient participation and

Clinical responsibilities
In accordance with the practice timetable as agreed, the post-holder
will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including

problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers
within the organisation
Recording clear and contemporaneous computer-based consultation notes to
agreed standards
Collecting data for audit purposes
Compiling and issuing computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions
(avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
Prescribing in accordance with practice policies and regard to locally
agreed or national guidelines
Seek advice and refer to other clinicians where necessary and/or
appropriate
In general, the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal
duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Other responsibilities with the Practice:
Awareness of compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines,
eg prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, CQC and
Improving Quality and Supporting Practices (IQSP) visits
A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence based
best practice
Keep a portfolio and undergo regular appraisal
Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within
the organisation
Contributing to the development of computer based patient records
Attending training, practice meetings and events organised by the
Practice or other agencies where appropriate
Support in the teaching and training of medical students and nurses
Meet all timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure
that the Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding
(eg Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit etc).
