Job summary

Due to the restructuring of our nursing team, a unique opportunity now exists to become part of our rural dispensing practice on a part time basis, Monday to Friday. The Partners are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, motivated, and proactive nurse to complement our small, friendly team of clinicians.We are looking for a skilled, dynamic, and motivatedPractice Nurse to join our dedicated team.

We are above all looking for someone who is a good fit for our team and will find it easy to fit in with our shared philosophy with the existing staff. We are seeking a well-rounded clinician with excellent clinical skills. We would be happy to encourage development into additional areas should they have a particular preference. We are looking for someone willing to work all day Tuesdays and Wednesday or Thursday afternoons.

Main duties of the job

As a Practice Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality clinical care to our patients. You will work closely with our GPs, healthcare assistants, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide a wide range of services, including chronic disease management, health promotion, vaccinations, and routine nursing care. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a busy and rewarding primary care setting, with the flexibility to support patients diverse healthcare needs.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide routine nursing care, including blood pressure checks, health screening, wound care, smears, medication reviews and immunisations.
  • Assist with chronic disease management for conditions such as diabetes, asthma, hypertension, and COPD.
  • Provide health promotion advice, including smoking cessation, weight management, and healthy living.
  • Perform phlebotomy (blood sample collection) and other diagnostic tests as required.
  • Deliver sexual health advice and family planning services, including contraception and sexual health screenings.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all patient interactions, maintaining high standards of record-keeping in line with practice policies.
  • Participate in the delivery of vaccination programmes, including flu vaccinations and childhood immunisations.
  • Support patients with preventative care and long-term health management, encouraging lifestyle changes.
  • Work closely with the wider healthcare team, ensuring patient care is seamless and integrated.

  • Registered Nurse with a current NMC registration.
  • Proven experience as a Registered Nurse in a GP setting, ideally in primary care.
  • Experience in chronic disease management, including managing conditions like diabetes, asthma, hypertension, and COPD.
  • Proficient in basic nursing skills, such as wound care, blood pressure monitoring, immunisations, smear taking and phlebotomy.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build rapport with patients and work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively in a busy practice environment.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and improving clinical skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in providing sexual health advice, contraception, and family planning services.
  • Immunisation training, including childhood vaccines and flu vaccinations.
  • Phlebotomy qualification (blood sample collection).
  • Experience using electronic health record systems, such as SystmOne or EMIS Web.
