Job summary

Kearsley Medical Centre are seeking a qualified Phlebotomist to undertake venipuncture procedures on patients aged 12+. The post is located at Kearsley Medical Centre, with one home visiting session per week to provide for our housebound patients.

The ideal candidate will be adept in venipuncture, have excellent patient relation skills, and be organised and quality focused to ensure the smooth running of the service and reduce the need for duplication.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a qaulified Phlebotomist to join our large, energetic team to take blood samples to support clinicans in the diagnosis and management of our patients health.

This post is a part time role working 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8am - 12pm.

We pay in line with Agenda for Change Pay band 2, Top pay point (currently £12.08p/h) and offer access to the NHS Pension Scheme.

About us

Kearsley Medical Centre is based in South Bolton, close to the A666, and provide care to approximately 13,500 patients. We are a training practice who provide support to trainee Clinicians, as well as our employed staff in the development of their career.

We have a friendly team of 40+ members of staff, who work collaboratively to deliver best care to the patients in our community.

Our large and diverse team consists of 6 GP Partners, 3 Salaried GPs, 2 ACPs, 1 Paramedic, 3 Practice Nurses, 1 Nursing Assistant Practitioner, MSK and Mental Health Practitioners, Social Prescribing Link Workers, and a growing Pharmacy team all supported by reception, admin and management teams.

Job responsibilities

Serves patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood samples, and preparing specimens for laboratory testing

Identify any discrepancies with test requests and bring to the attention of practice staff

Verify patient identification and explain sampling procedure to the patient

Obtain blood specimens by performing venepunctures

Maintain specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following practice procedures and infection control policy

Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal requirements

Identifies any risks or incidents and reports via the practice reporting procedure

Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, as directed by the practice

Reassures patients who are anxious about sampling procedures

Apply appropriate dressing to wounds created by venepuncture

Records professional and accurate notes within the patient record

Maintains an organised and clean workspace
