We are looking to recruit a salaried
General Practitioner to join our friendly, established practice in Kingsbridge,
Devon. We are in the beautiful South Hams, with a coastal lifestyle on the doorstep. This
is an exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic and forward-thinking team of
health care professionals who are passionate about delivering a high quality,
caring service for our patients. We are looking for 4-6 sessions per week
We believe in delivering high quality, timely and compassionate medicine
to our 10,200-patient community, a high standard of continuity of care is integral
to our practice ethos.

Main duties of the job
- To work as part of the GP and wider clinical team
- Undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations & emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, triaging, visiting patients at home and in care homes, ward rounds for the South Hams Hospital located next door, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, filing & actioning test results, patient medical reports and examinations, referral letters NHS/private/e-referral, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems
- Some flexibility to cover extended access hours and to commitment to cover annual leave within the practice for each other (Salaried GP and Partners)
- Prescribing in accordance with locally/nationally agreed guidelines
- In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care;
- Maintaining a personal professional portfolio;
- A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice (including annual appraisals and revalidation)
- On occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks commensurate with the role, dependent upon factors such as workload & staffing levels.
About us
- Norton Brook Medical Centre serves approximately 10,200 patients & has provided medical services for the local community in the area for over 50 years.
- The practice is situated in a purpose-built premises, close to the South Hams Hospital Community Hospital where we provide ward rounds for the 13 beds twice a week. We also support the care of patients in two care homes within Kingsbridge.
- Located in the South Hams in a region Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with 52 miles of glorious coastline and the Dartmoor National Park on the doorstep
- Kingsbridge is a thriving market town and tourist hub with its bustling fore street, busy harbour, strolling promenade and flower filled market square.
- We have 8 GP Partners, Salaried GP three Practice Nurses and 2 HCA; one phlebotomist as well as a wider local team comprising of District Nurses; Midwives and shared South Hams Primary Care Network Additional Roles including: First Contact Practitioners, Paramedics, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Social Prescribers, Care Coordinators, GP Assistants, and Mental Health workers
- We take an active role in South Hams Primary Care Network with one of our GP partners recently being appointed as the Clinical Director
- The practice participates in a wide range of national & local Enhanced Services. Also, the Practice is part of the Devon Integrated Care Partnership

Job Summary:
The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- In accordance with the practice rota, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
- Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
- In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
- Providing counselling and health education
- Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
- Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
- Collecting data for audit purposes
- Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
- Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
- In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Other Responsibilities within the Organisation:
- Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, eg prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
- A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
- Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
- Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records
- Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data
- Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
