Job summary

Are you a qualified dispenser looking for a change from community or hospital based dispensing?

Buckden and Little Paxton Surgeries are looking for a Lead dispenser as an addition to our dedicated dispensary team in our semi-rural practice of Buckden.

This is a highly rewarding role with the opportunity for progression and development in an environment that is different to community pharmacy with focus and dedication on patient care.

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player, who is able to work as part of a busy established team as well as being able to work alone. Dispensing to almost 3000 patients, this role is diverse with lots of training opportunities for personal progression.

The role will cover managerial roles including administrative control, delegation and staff leadership with strong communication.

We are able to offer 16 hours up to full time for this position.

Main duties of the job

Dispensing Duties:

To dispense Medicines/drugs as required by the doctors in the practice and to arrange for their checking as required.

Process prescriptions for non-dispensing patients

Not to dispense medicines to unauthorised persons without a doctor consent.

To dispense and record private prescriptions with their payments

To ensure that medicine/drugs are not date expired.

To receive, record and dispense repeat medicine requests.

To collect and record prescription charges.

To re-order medicine/drugs/stationary and containers as required.

To maintain stock efficiently and economically.

To fully observe all legal requirements relevant to prescribing in general practice.

To keep efficient records.

To assist auditing of dispensing activity and workload.

To prepare and package the prescriptions and submit, on time, to the PPA.

To maintain product liability records.

Personally administered clip- checked weekly and issues as required

Dosset Boxes

FP10 prescription logging details on system when delivered and when a new box is needed

Checking backs and fronts of prescriptions once a week and totals logged on systems (each dispenser checks a named doctor and other doctors when needed)

Automatic printing

Signing delivery notes

Dealing with alerts

CD checks

Destruction of CDs in accordance with regulations when required

To instruct the patients on the proper use of their treatments and any equipment prescribed

To deal with enquiries from patients

About us

We have a hard-working, friendly and dedicated team of 5 GP Partners, 3 salaried GPS, Registrars, 1 ANP and a highly skilled nursing team and outstanding administrative support teams. All staff members at the practice are supported by the partners and the Practice Managers. We are a training practice, CQC rated outstanding. We are a member of the A1 Network PCN.

Desirable

  • Stock control experience

  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development

Experience

Essential

  • 2-3 years of working in a dispensary.
  • Experience of designing and implementing policies and procedures
  • Experience of identifying and implementing best practice
  • Experience of resolving complaints
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Detailed knowledge of all aspects of day to day dispensary operations including stock management, ordering, customer service, health and safety and infection control, month end procedures.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Confident IT user
