Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic RGN/ RN trained nurse to join our patient focused, caring practice. We have a patient list of just under 11,000.
Strong nursing skills together with an interest in respiratory or diabetic care is desirable and personal development is encouraged. The ability to work in a busy team is essential.
Experience of practice nursing is desirable and an obvious advantage, however training can be provided for someone with enough relevant experience.
Ideally we are looking to recruit a nurse for 2-3 days.
Main duties of the job
- To be an active member of the
Tower House Surgery Care Team, working with the partners and the Practice team to
promote treatment, preventative care and patient education.

Assess, plan, provide and evaluate nursing
care to patients.
Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension, Cervical Cytology
Screening, Family Planning, Travel Vaccinations, Flu Vaccinations, Dressings, ECGs. Removal of sutures, treatment of minor injuries, taking of
swabs, Childhood Immunisations, NHS Health checks, and any other clinical
conditions identified by the Partners.
About us
Located on West Wycombe Rd, we are a busy, patient focused, caring practice.
On the clinical side of our team we have 3 partners, 4 salaried doctors, 2 paramedics, a GP Assistant, a HCA, Social prescriber and a phlebotomist. On the admin side providing support we have our reception team, clinical coders, registrations clerk, summariser, prescriptions clerk, office assistant, operations manager and practice manager.
We have a patient list of just under 11,000.
We use EMIS web and DOCMAN10.

MAIN PURPOSE OF POST
To be an active member of the
Primary Health Care Team, working with the partners and the Practice team to
promote treatment, preventative care and patient education.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL
Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension, Cervical Cytology
Screening, Family Planning, Travel Vaccinations, Flu Vaccinations, Dressings,
Ear Syringing, ECGs. Removal of sutures, treatment of minor injuries, taking of
swabs, Childhood Immunisations, NHS Health checks, and any other clinical
conditions identified by the Partners.
To be pro-active in health promotion and
education and to provide support to patients in changing lifestyle habits e.g.
stop smoking, diet and exercise.
Undertake the collection of pathological
specimens including swabs, smears, urine samples, and perform any investigatory
procedures requested by the Doctors.
To adhere to the operational guidelines and
protocols of the Practice to ensure an effective and efficient service.
Undertake to work within local and practice
policies on child protection, and protecting vulnerable adults
To effectively communicate, liaise and negotiate
holistic patient care.
To assist other health care professionals with
medical procedures.
To support and mentor current and training
of new
Health care assistants
To assist in the maintenance and standards of
Practice equipment.
Maintain confidentiality
Undertake to provide first aid to staff members
as well as patients if appropriate to do so.
Recognise and work within own competence and
professional code of conduct as regulated by the Nursing & Midwifery
Council
ADMINISTRATIVE
Work with the current Practice Nurses to ensure
the maintenance of equipment and stock levels in the treatment room relating to
patient care.
Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete
records of patient consultations, consistent with legislation, policies and
procedures, in the patients medical records.
Work in an effective and responsible way,
prioritise workload and ensure effective time management strategies are
applied.
Ensure accurate completion of all necessary
documentation associated with patient care and registration with the Practice.
Participate in the collection and maintenance of
statistical information required for regular reports and audits, both manually
and computerised.
Participate in the formulation and updating of
Practice protocols and procedures.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
To adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct.
Ensure accurate recording of all consultations
and treatments.
Maintain professional updating and act on
training needs to ensure best practice.
Participate in annual appraisals.
Co-operate and participate in any research
projects or audits within the Practice.
Attend and participate in all Practice meetings.
Attend and participate in all Clinical meetings.
Work effectively within multi-disciplinary team.
EDUCATIONAL
The Practice is committed to continuing nurse
education, and you will be expected to attend regular appropriate training
courses.
To participate in the formulation of nursing
protocols as required.
To participate in the development of effective
liaison with other health care professionals.
Attend and take an active part in Clinical/
Educational meetings any other Practice meetings deemed appropriate by the
Practice.

- Previous experience working in the community or primary care is desirable but not essential.

- Has some experience in using computers to input consultations.
