DISPENSARY TEAM LEADER

Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, experienced, qualified dispenser to work 24 hours a week on a 12 month fixed term contract, whilst our current Team Leader is on maternity leave.

The post holder will be an integral part of the general practice team.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the safe, accurate and efficient dispensing of medication to the entitled patient population, providing advice and support for both patients and colleagues. In addition, the post-holder will be required to manage the dispensary staff and support the multi-disciplinary team in line with the strategic objectives of the practice, including monitoring profitability by procuring stock cost effectively.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Being an expert in all aspects of the clinical system and be able to train other team members, in the best use of the system

Report to the Practice Manager any significant events relating to Dispensary

Ensuring compliance with CQC regulations and standards

Producing data for DSQS

Reviewing and updating Dispensary SOPS

Preparing overtime rotas and bringing them to the attention of the team

Overseeing the Dispensary teams annual leave, liaising with the Practice Manager where appropriate

The overseeing of the endorsing and counting of all prescriptions

Prescription queries being dealt with in a timely manner

Ensuring the team action all of their tasks effectively

Ensuring overtime is brought to the attention of the team

Ensuring that returned medication is disposed of appropriately

Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed with in accordance with practice policy

Ensuring that all returned controlled drugs are disposed of and recorded correctly

Safe disposal of returned and / or out of date medicines

The overseeing of the ordering of the Dispensary NHS stationary

The monitoring of drugs costs to ensure that we are purchasing at best price.

Overseeing the dispensers responsible for checking all medicines dispensed, ensuring there are no discrepancies

Dispensing medicines to the entitled population safely and accurately

Collecting prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol

Maintaining stock levels within the dispensary, liaising with the Dispensers to facilitate reordering

Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable

Ensuring all repeat prescriptions are processed within a 72 hour time frame

Providing patients with advice regarding all prescription matters

Process prescription requests via email, phone, face-to-face and online

Processing Dossett boxes

Completing monthly returns in conjunction with the SOP

Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times

Maintain accurate records at all times, read coding entries appropriately

Assisting in the training and development of dispensary staff

Assisting in the writing of appraisals for dispensary staff

To be responsible for planning and allocating work for all dispensary staff

Cross reference number and value of prescription charges against statements, ensuring accuracy

Effectively coordinating repeat prescriptions requests via telephone, email, online, repeat ordering and over the counter

On a monthly basis deal with uncollected medication in accordance with current policy

Effectively manage stock levels within the dispensary, ensuring adequate levels are held, minimising wastage and expenditure

Promote a safe an effective working environment, conforming to legislation, ensuring drugs are stored appropriately within temperature parameters and securely

Effective management of the cold chain process, ensuing all staff are aware of the requirement to accurately record temperatures and store items appropriately

Conduct stocktakes in accordance with guidance (when required)

Prepare invoices for payment, liaising with the Deputy Practice Manager as required

Assist with QOF targets

Responsible for the effective line management, appraisal and development of dispensary staff

Remain current with the latest guidance ensuring the dispensary conforms to NICE, CQC etc guidance

To line manage the dispensary staff in accordance with current practice policy
