HEALTH CARE
ASSISTANT/PHLEBOTOMIST
Due to
increased demand, we are looking for a Health Care Assistant/Phlebotomist to
join our friendly Practice family.
Oswald Medical Centre is an award-winning Practice serving over 16,000
patients. We are based across 3 sites in
Accrington, Oswaldtwistle and Blackburn.
We pride ourselves on our approach to providing caring services and
offer a range of standard NHS and enhanced services including minor surgery.
We are looking for a competent Health Care Assistant/Phlebotomist who can work independantly and also as part of a team. The successful applicant should have had prevous experience of working in a busy GP surgery carrying out a variety of duties to meet the needs of the practice patients.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high-quality care service based on the
needs of the Practice population which includes treatment, screening,
preventative care, and patient education. Assisting GPs/PN/NA
To manage patients with chronic disease, running specific
clinic sessions and supporting the maintenance of robust call and recall
systems
- Venepuncture and other skill-based tasks
- Home Visits to Housebound Patients to Manage Long Term
Conditions
- Assist with Minor Surgery Aseptic Technique
- Looking at the Unmet Needs of all the patients with LTC
including Housebound
- NHS Health Checks
- Function as chaperone when required
- Undertake health promotion to help educate patients
- Hypertension Clinics
- Weighing & Measuring Patients
- Undertake Opportunistic Screening
- Update Care Plans and inform all people involved in the
patients care
- Health Promotion Provide individual advice on Smoking
Cessation, Health Eating & Refer to in-house staff H&WBC, Social
Prescriber
- Develop & Maintain Health Promotion Material with the
Practice/Notice Boards
- Refer to other agencies as appropriate
- Infection Control Apply Infection Control Measures
according to local and national guidelines. Support patients and colleagues
in adopting sound infection control measures.
- Safeguarding Adults/Children
- Competent in Anaphylaxis and Resuscitation Techniques
- Assisting with Flu Clinics
- 24 Hours ECGs after completing required training

- Mental Health Recognises and is aware of appropriate
referral mechanisms for family violence, substance a use and addictive
behaviours
- General
- To maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all staff,
patients, carers, and co-workers from other agencies. Ensure all statutory
regulations (e.g. Health & Safety, COSHH, etc) are implemented and
adhered to
- To always promote a professional approach by attire and
attitude to patients and staff both in and out of the Practice
- To maintain own continuous professional development and
ensure PDP kept up to date in line with the requirements of the Practice
- Attend and participate in staff and Practice meetings and
in-house clinical training sessions
