Job summary
We are looking for a Dispenser to join our Dispensary Team. We are seeking a well-organised, friendly individual who has excellent customer service and communication skills. This is a busy and varied role, and the successful applicant will be fully committed to attention to detail, patient safety and excellent patient care. If you have current dispensary or pharmacy experience and would like to be part of a busy, friendly practice with a supportive clinical and managerial team then we would like to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
To dispense and record NHS and private prescriptions ensuring payment/exemption is collected and recorded for all items dispensed
To follow end of day prescription collation and cashing up procedure
To observe all dispensing laws and regulations in force and to adhere to StandardOperating Procedures in addition to following daily task lists provided as appropriate
To keep all necessary records as required by law and the Dispensary Manager
To keep up to date at all times with mandatory training and to engage in a minimum of one cycle of CPD plus attend courses and Team Meetings as agreed with the Line Management
To deliver efficient dispensing processes and ensuring dispensary losses are minimised with a particular focus on stock management
To ensure the dispensary is kept clean and tidy at all times
To ensure the safety and security of the dispensary and contents at all times
To deliver medication to patients unable to attend the dispensary (car provided for this service)
To be observant of health and safety practice, legislation and regulations
To be observant of uniform standards and personal appearance at all times
Ability to use own knowledge to respond to patient enquiries and requests
About us
We are a semi-rural training and dispensing general practice with around 5,500 patients. We have 3 practice partners and a 2 further GP’s, a nursing team, dispensing team, admin and patient services team all working closely together in a very friendly can do group, offering utmost care and confidence for our patients.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Dispensary Manager
JOB PURPOSE: To ensure prescriptions are dispensed efficiently and safely in accordance with current legislation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Delivering the technical aspects of the dispensary whilst ensuring the safe supply of medication including ordering, labelling, dispensing, endorsing and collection prescriptions
PERSONAL: To be able to work as part of a team and
PROFILE/SPECIFICATION: support the running of the department
- Preferred NVQ Level 2 Dispensing qualification - or fully training will be provided
- Ability to work and adhere to standard operating protocols and to follow guidance given by line managers
- You will have the ability to build strong relationships with patients and colleagues, tailoring your support accordingly
- IT skills to enable use of current systems and any future developments
- To hold a clean driving license
