Job summary

Due to retirement within Brownlow Healths Homeless Service, we have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and compassionate clinician who has experience working with alcohol dependent adults. The post holder will predominantly work with our homeless population and other hard to reach groups and will build strong links with A/E and Liverpool Community Alcohol Service (LCAS) with the aim of reducing alcohol related harm through assessment, health promotion, advice and support.

Main duties of the job

To work within the Brownlow homeless team (and across our network practice when required) offering direct care to those patients who are experiencing alcohol dependence alongside other features of complex lives cohort including drug dependence, severe enduring mental health and issues with physical health. They will also engage with frequent attendees at A&E following alcohol related incidents. The post holder will work with this cohort of patients to assess, develop, implement & evaluate plans of care.

A key function of this role is to seek out those within the population who have attended A&E (for this population this is predominantly members of the homeless/hard to engage members of the community) address their drinking behaviours with the aim of reducing other areas of alcohol related harm through assessment, health promotion advice and information, harm reduction and relapse prevention. The post holder will also be responsible for promoting the service and engaging hard to reach groups.

The Homeless Service is a specialist Service with a dedicated multi-disciplinary team. The Service is one of many specialist services that form Brownlow Health. Brownlow Health is a large training organisation committed to supporting our team and developing our services. We have a diverse practice population over six sites in the vibrant City of Liverpool.

We have a large supportive nursing team of over 40, managed by three Nurse Managers and a Nurse Partner.

  • Registered Nurse Associate qualification
  • Successful completion of alcohol related education

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within the NHS/ Primary Care
  • Proven skills in the alcohol field
  • Accountability must understand the concepts of accountability and be confident to take guidance from a more senior registered practitioner.
  • Computer skills- use of EMIS
  • Recording and understanding clinical observations
  • Long Term Conditions (LTC) Monitoring
  • Be competent in use of brief interventions and Motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Experience of assessing detoxing of patients inside or outside of the hospital environment
  • Able to utilize Hazard drinking assessment tool
  • Able to utilize SADQ
  • Experience of taking an alcohol history
  • Be trained and competent in recognizing adult and child protection.
  • Assessment skills
