Job summary

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic, part-time Patient Advisor (Medical Receptionist) to join our excellent, friendly team who provide a high quality and efficient service to our patients.

Working hours will be:

Tuesday 1:00pm - 6:30pm

Wednesday 8:00am - 6:30pm

Friday 8:00am - 6:00pm

Duties will include answering the telephone, dealing with patient enquiries at reception and administrative duties. The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate competency in administration with excellent communication skills and have a flexible approach to work within the Practice rota system. Full training will be provided

Main duties of the job

Opening the surgery in the morning and closing it in the evening ensuring the building and all rooms are secure

Ensure that the telephone system is operational at the beginning of each working day and switched over to out of hours service and answer phone when the surgery is closed.

Receiving and dealing with telephone calls taking accurate messages and taking action where necessary.

Receiving patients and visitors on arrival at the surgery and directing them as necessary.

Receiving and recording requests for home visits and printing summaries.

Making appointments for patients with clinical staff and ancillary services.

Ensure efficiency of appointment system and monitor flow of patients into consulting and treatment rooms.

Dealing with emergencies concerning patients request for GP or nurse assistance.

Process all requests for prescriptions both within two working days.

Job responsibilities

Opening the surgery in the morning and closing it in the evening ensuring the building and all rooms are secure

Ensure that the telephone system is operational at the beginning of each working day and switched over to out of hours service and answer phone when the surgery is closed.

Receiving and distributing incoming mail and ensuring outgoing mail is sent appropriately

Notifying patients regarding any changes of treatment as appropriate

Advising patients of charges for non-NHS services and taking payments and issuing receipts for payments

Liaison with other members of staff and outside agencies

Scanning and processing of electronic mail

Photocopying / shredding

Ensuring the waiting area is kept tidy and comfortable

Ensure that the consulting rooms are checked at the beginning and end of each consulting session and left neat and tidy

Receiving death notifications informing all Practice staff.

Any other duties as they present themselves and are commensurate with grade and responsibilities of the post.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in an administrative role.
