Practice Nurse (skilled to a Band 5)

Job summary

We are a proactive surgery and support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that encourage patients to live healthily and apply principles of self-care.

The role will incorporate assessment care for patients presenting with uncomplicated wounds. Support and manage health needs of women presenting for cervical cytology consultations. Experience in this role would be advantageous but training can be given.

Main duties of the job

Primary Responsibilities

  • Smear procedures
  • Depo injections
  • ECGs
  • Removal of clips and sutures
  • Wound dressings to include compression bandaging
  • Vaccinations to include FLU, Shingles, pneumo, RSV
  • Child nasal flu
  • Travel vaccinations
  • Venepuncture
  • Whooping cough vaccination
  • Zoladex/Prostap and similar injections
  • Housebound visits if applicable

Job responsibilities

The post holder will ideally be an experienced nurse. They will ideally have key practice nursing skills and competencies and should also have experience in managing patients with a long-term condition. Supported by senior nurses within the practice, you will deliver care within the boundaries of your role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long-term conditions, health prevention and screening activities. Experience of working in primary care is desirable but we welcome nursing colleagues from all areas of health provision.
