Medical Receptionist

Job summary

The role will be for 36/37 hours per week

  • Maintain and monitor the practice appointment system Supporting our GP Assistant
  • Processing of appointments
  • Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately
  • Signpost patients to the correct service
  • Initiating contact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies
  • Clinically code data on EMIS
  • Photocopy documentation as required
  • Data entry of new/temporary registrations and relevant patient information as required
  • Input data into patients healthcare records as necessary
  • Direct requests for information, i.e., SAR, insurance/solicitors letters and DVLA forms to the administrative team
  • Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
  • Carry out system searches as requested
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area always
  • Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boards
  • Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested
  • Support administrative staff, providing cover during staff absences
  • Action incoming emails/correspondence as necessary
  • Scan patient related documentation and attach scanned documents to patients healthcare records
  • Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty Rota
  • As required, support the team in the management of repeat prescriptions, ensuring they are processed accurately and efficiently

Main duties of the job

  • Previous office experience is essential, preferably within a medical or healthcare setting
  • Strong administrative experience with proficiency in using office software and equipment
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a friendly demeanour
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Strong organisational skills to manage patient records and appointments efficiently
  • A compassionate approach to patient care, demonstrating empathy and professionalism at all times
